What You Need To Know About 2022 Topps Heritage Parallels

2022 Topps Heritage Parallels

The 2022 Topps Heritage set features a number of interesting short prints and variations for collectors to chase, which we explored here on Cardlines.

Adding to the pack ripping excitement, there are also a number of parallels in 2022 Topps Heritage. Today we’ll explore those parallels, some of which cover every card in the base set, and some of which are partial-set parallels.

2022 Topps Heritage parallels (base)

There are two ultra-limited parallels that, well, parallel the entire base set. These parallels are both hobby exclusives and serial numbered.

Black Border /50

As the name suggests, these parallels look like the base cards, except with solid black borders. For long-term collectors, this marriage of 1971 Topps and 1973 Topps might feel a bit odd, but with a print run limited to 50, these are worth ripping packs for.

Flip Stock /5

Flip stock is a little less obvious, although it’s a fun one. Most Heritage cards have a matte finish on the back, with a light gloss on the front. To produce these cards, Topps literally “flipped the stock”, so the front is a matte finish and the back has a slight gloss.

Some may find that imaginative, some might find it a bit kitschy. With a print run of only five copies per card, though, we can all agree it’s a great pull.

Base Mini

Sometimes good things come in small packages. In this case, 130 cards from the set get the “mini” treatment. These smaller versions of the base cards have print runs limited to 100 cards.

While mini cards have become a popular parallel in recent years, this one harkens back to another vintage mini set, the 1975 Topps minis.

See the bottom of the article for a Base Mini checklist.

French Text

Another partial set parallel, these cards feature French text on the card back. This homage to vintage O-Pee-Chee cards is limited to 73 copies per card.

Topps 2022 Heritage parallels (Chrome)

In some ways, a chrome parallel of a vintage-themed set feels a bit off-the-mark. The history of the Heritage brand proves this is far from the case, with Chrome in all its forms some of the most popular chases in the hobby.

The 2022 Topps Heritage Chrome parallel covers 100 cards from the base set. The standard Chrome offering is serial numbered to 999 copies.

Beyond the basic Chrome parallel, there are a variety of “parallels to the parallel” that are even tougher pulls.

Chrome refractor

The popular Chrome Refractor returns, bringing a layer of “extra shiny” to the “shiny” Chrome. Sounds crazy for a vintage-themed set, but it works. The Chrome Refractors have a print run of 673 copies each.

Red border

As the name suggests, these cards feature a red border and an even more limited print run than the regular chrome refactors, with each numbered out of 573 cards.

Silver border

The silver versions are numbered to 373 copies and feature a metallic border that really pops.

Green border

The luck of the Irish is with whoever pulls one of these smart-looking green bordered cards, as they are limited to only 273 copies.

Black border

We get to really rarified air with these black beauties, which really pop with their jet black borders. These are limited to a hard-to-pull but still collectible 73 copies per card.

Gold border

While all that glitters is not gold, pulling one of these 1/1 cards is sure to feel like hitting the jackpot.

Hot Box Refractor

These purple-bordered cards are exclusive to hobby “hot” boxes and blasters. Print runs aren’t known at this time, but they do appear to be quite rare.

The final word on 2022 Topps Heritage Parallels

The parallels available in packs of 2022 Topps Heritage offer collectors several different levels of scarcity. More importantly, they offer variety…from colored borders to mini cards.

Whether you’re a team or player collector, a master set builder, or just love a little something “shiny or tiny” mixed in with your vintage-themed cards, these parallels should make pack busting a little more exciting.

Mike D

Mike D. has collected cards for over 35 years, since he bought his first pack of Topps at the corner store in 1987. His fandom,  collecting interests, and contributions to Cardlines center around baseball in general and the Baseball Hall of Fame specifically.

Mike's collecting focus is centered on graded cards, mostly rookie cards, of Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers. Lately, he's been enjoying dabbling in graded minor league cards. A collector/investor with a "buy and hold" approach, Mike takes the long-term view with his collection.
