The 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball To Drop With 100% Hits – What’s In This Checklist?

2022 Topps Tier One Release

If you’re the kind of pack breaker who is all about the hits, and considers base cards a waste, 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball may be for you. Similar to 2022 Topps Sterling, this set is all about small pack and box size, no clutter, and big hits.

No base, just hits on this 2022 Topps Tier One Checklist

Yes, when we say that this set is all about the hits, we mean that literally. There is no base set

Each pack of 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball has only 3 cards. Each hobby box contains just one pack.

Those three cards? There are two autographs and one relic per pack. Oh, and some of the autographs are relics (or the relics have autographs, if you prefer).

Topps Tier One 2022 Release date & presale prices

2022 Topps Tier One Baseball is scheduled to drop on July 27, 2022 (release dates are subject to change).

As of this writing, pre-sale prices on Topps Tier One Baseball 2022 Hobby Boxes (1 pack, 3 cards) are right around $220 delivered.

A note on player selection

While $220 for 3 cards isn’t what anyone would call a discount, it’s notable that it is a fraction of the $1,000 for 2 cards we saw in 2022 Topps Sterling

Because of the cost difference, collectors should be aware that not every pull will be a superstar. The superstars are in there, as are some truly awesome pulls, there will be some autographs and relics that may not give collectors the rush they’re seeking, or the resale value to make back the cost of the box.

2022 Topps Tier One Baseball Autographs

Other than cut autographs (mostly retired/deceased former players), the autographs in 2022 Topps Tier 1 Baseball are on-card, which should be good news for collectors.

The autographed cards come in a number of subsets, covering several different types of subjects.

Break Out Autographs

Break Out autographs feature rookies and young players. Base versions are limited to 299 or fewer copies. Parallels include Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Tier One Talent Autograph

Tier One Talent autographs focus on a particular baseball skill. Base versions are limited to 299 or fewer copies. Parallels include Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Prime Performers Autographs

Prime Performers autographs feature both current and former players. Base versions are limited to 299 or fewer copies. Parallels include Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Tier One Autographs

Tier One autographs are limited to 199 or fewer for base versions, and are considered a “case hit”. The quality of the player and length of the 2022 Topps Tier One checklist is lower than the prior mentioned autographs. Base versions are limited to 299 or fewer copies. Parallels include Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Next Level Autographs

Next Level autographs are limited to 50 copies or fewer for base versions. Parallels include Bronze Ink (/25), Silver Ink (/10) and Gold Ink (1/1).

Clear One Autographs and Clear One Dual Autographs

Whether single-signed or dual-autographed, Clear One autographs are numbered to fewer than 10 copies. The cards include acetate, giving them a bit of a unique look and feel.

Dual & Triple Autographs

If an autograph of one player is awesome then a card with autographs from two or three autographs are even better. Dual autos are limited to 25 copies, and Triple autographs are limited to 10 copies.

Cut Signatures

Cut Signatures feature autographs of deceased former players that are cut from original sources, such as letters, checks, or documents. 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball Cut Signatures are all limited to 1/1.

Topps Tier One 2022 Baseball Autographed Relics

The combination of an autograph and one or more relics on a card makes for quite a collectable. These are often sticker autographs as opposed to on-card but still offer some really exciting pulls.

Autographed Tier One Relics

These are the most plentiful of the autograph/relic combos offered in the product. They are limited to fewer than 99 copies. Parallels include Dual Patch (/25) and Triple Patch (1/1).

Dual Autograph Tier One Relic Books

Dual Autograph Tier One Relic Books open to reveal a signature and swatch of two players. Print runs are limited to 10 copies per card.

Gripping Autographed Relics

Gripping Autographed Relics are new to Topps Tier One for 2022. In an interesting twist, these don’t feature bits of uniform, patches, or bats…but you will find grip tape on these interesting relics. Base versions are limited to 10 or fewer copies, with a 1/1 Platinum parallel version also available.

Perfect Contact Autographed Bat Relics

Perfect Contact Autographed Bat Relics offer more than your standard bat relic, with a full slice of a bat, not just a small chip. Production is limited to five copies per card.

Autographed Prodigious Patches

Autographed Prodigious Patches feature autographs and a uniform patch, and are limited to 10 copies.

1/1 Autographed Relics

There are a number of 1/1 autographed relics in 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball, including Autographed Bat Knobs and Limited Lumber, Cut Signature Relics, and Signature Tools Autograph Relics, the last of which includes a piece from the pen the player used to sign.

2022 Topps Tier 1 Baseball Relics

2022 Topps Tier One Baseball relics may be a bit less flash than autographed cards or auto/relic combos, but they can still be really exciting pulls.

Tier One Relics

Tier One Relics feature patch relics and come in two different designs and are limited to 399 or fewer copies each. Parallels include dual (/25) and triple patches (1/1).

Tier One Legends Relics

Tier One Legends Relics feature stars of the past and are limited to 199 copies or fewer.

Uniform Button Relics

Uniform Button Relics feature a unique spin on the relic theme, with uniform buttons featured on the cards. These are numbered to five copies each, which makes you wonder what they did with the other buttons on each uniform.

All-Star Patches

All-Star Patches are 1/1 offerings and feature large patches from the 2021 All Star Game.

Prodigious Patches & Gripping Relics

Limited to 10 copies each, offer unsigned versions of autograph relic versions of these cards.

Tier One 1/1 Relics

Bat Knobs and Limited Lumber offer two bat-related relic offerings with very limited print runs.

The Final Word on 2022 Topps Tier One Baseball

2022 Topps Tier One Baseball will be released on July 27th, and if you’re a fan of just the hits, maybe it’s the product for you. It offers a lower price point than Topps Sterling, but still is a premium product with the potential for premium hits.
