Topps Triple Threads is undoubtedly a high-end product, but it’s one that appears to have found its niche within the hobby.

The 2022 Topps Triple Threads release date has moved a few times already. The exact drop date has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be sometime in December 2022.
2022 Topps Triple Threads hobby boxes contain two packs with each pack containing seven cards. Each case contains 18 hobby packs.
The first pack includes an autographed triple relic and a jumbo relic. The second pack includes either a rookie autograph or an autographed jumbo relic as well as a triple relic.
Pre-sale info on 2022 Topps Triple Threads is a little hard to find, but where we do see them available, they are selling for around $400 per box.
$400 for 14 cards puts this box squarely in the “premium product” category.

Unlike some ultra-premium, high-dollar products, 2022 Topps Triple Threads does offer a base set.
The base set consists of 100 cards, featuring a mix of current and retired stars. With only six base cards per box, this would be one pricy set to build from packs.
The base set design consists of a frame of gold, black, and red around a photo of the player. The card front has a textured look. The player’s name appears on a black plate at the bottom of the frame, making the card look like a labeled painting in a frame. The team name or player position are not listed on the card front.
Overall, the card design is solid but unspectacular, although some of the parallels do enhance the base design a bit in a way that really pops.
Speaking of parallels…
As with most ultra-modern offerings, a rainbow of parallel versions enhances the 2022 Topps Triple Threads product. In this case, the parallel names lend an air of fanciness to the proceedings, with names you won’t find in your standard box of Crayola crayons.
Parallel versions include:
Autographed relics are one of the big draws of the 2022 Topps Triple Thread product, with some exciting hits to be had.

2002 Topps Triple Threads hobby boxes are pre-selling for around $400. How does that compare to prices for prior years? The good news is that both 2020 and 2021 boxes are selling for a bit more than that, roughly in the $425-450 range. That suggests the product holds its value well in unopened form.
As far as singles go, the story is a little different. Looking at recent sales of 2021 Triple Threads singles, none pass the $2,000 threshold, and only a handful have sold for over $1,000. There are more in the $500-1,000 range, although again not a huge number. This suggests that with a buy-in for a box of $400, the high-end payback option potentially isn’t great. Base cards and even some relics have sold for very small sums.
So, these boxes are a bit of a lottery ticket, and like real lottery tickets, the chances of a payback aren’t great.
