The 2022 edition of Topps Heritage Baseball will be released in just a few days! The 2022 release mimics the 1973 Topps card design and includes a variety of inserts, autographs, and memorabilia. In anticipation, we present our 2022 Topps Heritage Baseball review.

Topps’ Heritage Baseball series pays homage to the vintage Topps designs collectors know and love. When it debuted in 2001, the inaugural set recreated the 1952 Topps design.
Since then, Topps has released Heritage Baseball annually. Although not as popular, Topps also rolls out minor league Heritage sets. They’ve also extended the Heritage release to Bowman, recreating vintage sets from the 1940s and 1950s and more recently into the 1990s.
The 1973 Topps Baseball design! Collectors who have fond memories of the original release will love the modern recreation for 2022 Topps Heritage Baseball. Fans with a soft spot for anything featuring a throwback design (me!) will also enjoy ripping the upcoming release. The wide variety of inserts, autographs, and memorabilia cards are also enticing.
Collectors who prefer sleeker and more modern designs may not appreciate Topps’ Heritage line, as well as those who aren’t fans of the 1973 cards. Additionally, investors hoping to hold on to wax might not find the long-term value other Topps series offer. Heritage in recent years is heavily overprinted and does not hold value.
2022 Topps Heritage Baseball will be released in five different formats. Hobby boxes will be released first, hitting shelves on March 11. Hanger boxes will be available at the end of the month, with blaster boxes, fat packs, and retail boxes rolling out in April. The breakdown for each format is below.

2022 Topps Heritage Baseball boasts another massive 500 card base set, with short-printed cards numbered 401-500. In addition, there are 100 Chrome variations of base cards and base variations, and a miniature set. The parallels are slim, but there are insert cards galore, and several fantastic autographed and memorabilia cards. Let’s dig in!
Like in all 2022 Topps releases, Wander Franco is the chase. Look for his Heritage cards on eBay.
Many of the inserts you’ll find in the 2022 release are ones you’ve seen before. These include New Age Performers, Then and Now, Baseball Flashbacks, and News Flashbacks.
Other inserts you may find are 1973 Topps Candy Lids, 1973 Topps Comics, 1973 Topps Pin-Ups Boxloaders, and 1973 Topps Venezuela Stamps. There are 25 cards in each of these insert sets.
Last but not least, you should find one boxloader in each hobby box. The Pin-Ups Boxloaders are a play on the original poster cards, these fall about 1 in every 2 boxes. The other boxloaders are oversized versions of 50 base cards, each with print runs of /1,000. A few lucky collectors will find their oversized 1973 Topps Baseball Boxloader autographed.
New Age Performers is a veteran insert making a comeback. Look for more on eBay.
Real One Autographs continues to take center stage on the on-card ink side. There are 71 solo signers and a Red Ink Special Edition parallel (/73) for each Real One Autograph. Real One Dual and Triple Autographs are exclusive hobbies, with four Dual Autos (/25) and three Triple Autos (/5). Here’s the Dual and Triple Auto checklist:
There are other familiar autographed cards returning for the 2022 release. These include 1973 Baseball and Celebrity Cut Signatures, the former with 9 cards and the latter with 10. Unfortunately, these are nearly impossible to pull as each card is a 1/1.
Rounding out the autograph selections are the autographed relic cards. Nine players are featured in the Clubhouse Collection Autograph Relics checklist. These cards are all out of /25, with a patch parallel that’s 1/1. Even more prestigious are the three Clubhouse Collection Dual Autograph Relics. These are all out of /10 and a hobby exclusive, again with a 1/1 patch parallel. Lastly, Flashback Autographed Relics is another rare chase featuring former stars. Again, there are 11 of these hobby exclusive cards, all 1/1.
Topps Heritage always has a unique set of memorabilia cards. The 1973 Mint memorabilia set starts us off. The checklist carries 50 of these hobby-exclusive cards, each with four versions: Nickel (/15), Dime (/10), Quarter (/5), Half-Dollar (1/1). Actual coins made in 1973 are embedded into these cards. We also have a 20-card checklist of 1973 U.S. Postal Stamp Relics. These cards include (you guessed it!) stamps issued in 1973. These cards are numbered to /50.
Wrapping up the 2022 Topps Heritage Baseball release are four separate Clubhouse Collection Relics. These cards include game-used uniforms and bat pieces from your favorite players. The solo relics have a 93-card checklist, with the others coming in at 10 cards each. All of these cards are hobby exclusive. Topps Heritage is not known for its strong investment value. Still, some of the older boxes do well on the secondary market. Let’s take a look.
Topps Heritage releases have done a solid job of growing in value over time. The wax from the 2011 through 2014 releases each have a resale price of over $500. More recent releases have maintained their value.

Topps Heritage singles are generally affordable and easy to find. However, Mike Trout’s base cards were short prints in three of the past five years, making them more expensive than most singles. However, Trout’s cards can be found for a few dollars when they aren’t short print versions. In the 2022 Topps Heritage release, Trout’s #100 card is a standard base card.

2022’s Heritage release honors the 1973 Topps design while including many features that today’s collectors enjoy. Topps Heritage Baseball isn’t for everyone, but those who’ve enjoyed past Heritage releases will find many of the same inserts, autographs, and memorabilia cards from past years. Do not expect to make any money off investing, but the big beautiful set is irresistible to vintage oriented set collectors.
