Depending on where you call home, March either brings spring to your doorstep, or just offers the occasional tease of the warmth to come. Spring Training is in full swing, and the month ends with MLB’s Opening Day.
But the auction action? That brings the heat no matter where you live or what you collect. But what auction houses have auctions ending this month? And what are some of the items you won’t want to miss?
The Collector Connection brings us their Post War Sports Cards & Memorabilia XXX, which closes on March 3rd. As is often the case with The Collector Connection, the auction features more “collector grade” lots that are more affordable than the museum pieces you often see in auctions from other houses.

Beyond cards, there are Press & Employee Passes, signed balls, and more.

While the focus here is vintage, it certainly still offers a big mix of years. There’s everything from 19th century cards to prewar, to post-war, to the “modern” era of the 1960’s and 1970’s. There are some amazing cards, although maybe fewer are museum pieces, and more “collector grade”. That’s not a bad thing by any stretch.
There are some that will still fetch a pretty penny. These include the 1887 N28 Allen and Ginter Mike King Kelly in PSA AA. There’s a 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle in PSA 1.5 and a 1959 Topps in PSA 6. Joe DiMaggio fans will find a 1939 Play Ball in PSA 2 and a 1941 Play Ball in PSA 1. Jackie Robinson? Check out the 1952 Berk Ross in BGS 4, or the 1953 Topps in PSA 3. These are just a taste of the fun and classic cards included.
Sirius Sports Cards has its Auction #360 endings on March 7th. The auction is noteworthy for being a very nice mix of cards. Baseball leads the way, but fans will also find Football, Basketball, Hockey, and more. The cards range from vintage to junk wax era to modern. The lots also range in price, with some high-end items, but many items more accessible to the average collector. Combined with the lower Buyer’s Premium, this makes the Sirius auction well worth a look.

There’s a lot to like and a nice mix here. There’s a couple early-career Nolan Ryan cards that are graded with graded autographs, including a 1968 Topps rookie card, and a 1969 Topps. An autographed Pete Rose rookie card. A 1958 Topps Mantle in PSA 4. A 1957 Topps card in a very rare PSA 10. A 1989 Topps Traded Barry Sanders graded PSA 10/10. The lots range across eras and sports, and offer a variety of grades and price points. A really interesting and fun mix to scroll through.
In addition to cards, there are a number of memorabilia lots, as well as non-sports. Autographs are also a big piece of the action, and well worth a look.

The first two lots in the auction set the tone here. The circa-1942 game-worn Ted Williams jersey is a real gem. The 1991 Kentucky Derby Owner’s Trophy is a true one-of-a-kind item. There is a Roberto Clemente jersey that he wore during the 1960 World Series.
Michael Jordan fans should check out the 1997-98 Metal Universe Championship Basketball Precious Metal Gems #25/50 in PSA 8, which is sure to sell for a significant sum. There is a 1949 Bowman Baseball Jackie Robinson slabbed with a signature graded a 9 by PSA. A signed photo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig is an amazing artifact. Babe Ruth is well-represented in the auction, with a mix of cards, autographs, photos, and more.
There’s lots more here, as well. Jerseys, bats, tickets, photos, and of course lots and lots of amazing cards, both graded and raw. You’ll even find a PSA 10-graded autograph of Abraham Lincoln.

Pre-war baseball makes up a large percentage of this auction, as noted above. For example, one of the top lots is a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder in a PSA 5 slab. There are a number of 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life cards, including an impressive Honus Wagner in SGC 6.
There’s a 1933 V353 World Wide Gum Babe Ruth in PSA 6. There are 1910 E93’s, 2011 T205, and so many more great pre-war cards.
But it’s not all pre-war. There’s a 1948-49 Leaf Jackie Robinson in PSA 3.5. There’s a 1976 Topps Reggie Jackson graded PSA 10. The 1980-1981 Topps Basketball Larry Bird/Magic Johnson Rookie in PSA 9 is a real gem.
This is truly the tip of the iceberg, as there are many great lots well worth flipping through.
