The Very Best Sports Cards And Memorabilia Auctions During February

February brings cold temperatures to much of the Northern Hemisphere. But it also brings the big finish of the Super Bowl, the hopeful start of MLB Spring Training, and as always, lots of action on the auction block.

But what auctions are going on this month? And what are some of the items worth chasing? Let’s explore the Cardlines February Auction Guide.

Memory Lane, Inc. Winter Premier 2024 Auction

Memory Lane, Inc. brings us their Winter Premier 2024 Auction, which wraps up on February 3rd. With only 120 lots, the auction is small in quantity but high in quality, with the lots representing some of the iconic cards in the hobby.

Items of Note

This auction features some of the most iconic cards of the pre and post-war eras, most in shocking high-grade slabs. There’s a 1909-11 T206 Ty Cobb Portrait Green Piedmont in a PSA 7 slab (only two higher).

A 1952 Bowman Mantle in PSA 9. A 1952 Topps Willie Mays in PSA 8, and a Jackie Robinson, also in PSA 8. The 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson PSA 8 is the highest PSA-graded example. Several other cards in the offering represent the highest-graded PSA examples out there.

While the auction items are mostly baseball, there are a few items from other sports. These include a 1952 Bowman Large #16 Frank Gifford in PSA 9, a 1957 Topps #138 Johnny Unitas in PSA 8, a 1957 Topps #77 Bill Russell in PSA 7, and a 1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain in PSA 8, among others.

Not a fan of vintage? No problem…the auction does have two cards produced after 1980: A 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan in PSA 8 and a 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. PSA 10.

The Collector Connection Post War Sports Cards & Memorabilia XXIX

The Collector Connection has its Post War Sports Cards and Memorabilia XXIX auction wrapping up on February 4th at 10 PM ET. With a focus on some more affordable items, this is an auction that is more accessible than some to the average collector.

Items of Note

The Collector Connection auction this month features a nice mix of graded and raw cards, with a lot of interesting oddball, regional, and food issues included. An example is the 1965 Topps Football Joe Namath RC in PSA 5.

The 1980 TCMA Reading Phillies complete set contains a Ryne Sandberg in a PSA 9 slab, an impressive example of Sandberg’s 1st cardboard appearance.

In addition to really interesting singles, there are also a large number of complete and partial sets, from many years and companies.

A healthy number of unopened materials include sets, hobby boxes, retail boxes, cases, and even a 1972 Milton Bradley Official Baseball Card Game.

This one is worth a look, as where some auctions are made up of nothing but high-priced museum pieces, Collectors Connection brings some affordable, but still awesome, lots.

Items of Note

Some of the top items in this auction feature Babe Ruth, including a 1922 E121 American Caramel in SGC 4, and 1933 Goudey including #53, #149, and #181 in that iconic set. Michael Jordan is well represented, including several 1986-87 Fleer examples, including an SGC 8.5.

While the lots are heavy on vintage, there are a few tastes of ultra-modern chromium. There is a 2022-23 Bowman University Best Victor Wembanyama Green Refractor in SGC 10. The 2023 Topps Chrome Bronny James McDonald’s All American Auto Refractor in SGC 9/Auto 10. One Bronny not enough? There’s also a three-card lot of graded examples.

There are unopened cases of 2020 Panini NFL Football Prizm, Panini NFL Football Contenders Optic, 2018 Panini Prizm NFL Football, and many more.

Classic Auctions Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

The Classic Auctions Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024 ends on February 20th.

The focus here is hockey, which is nice as it’s a sport that doesn’t always get a lot of love in most auctions. The auction is heavy on memorabilia, although there are some cards scattered throughout.

Items of Note

One of the highlights of the auction is the numerous lots from the personal collection of Hall of Famer Dino Ciccarelli. This includes a mix of jerseys, sticks, pucks, photos, and more.

Championship Rings, Awards and Trophies are also a big part of the auction, with many hard to find examples available. Autographs, both vintage and modern, are also well-represented in the auction.

In terms of cardboard, there’s a number of 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie cards, of course, in a variety of conditions, including a PSA 8 specimen. There’s also plenty of older cards. For example, a 1911-12 Imperial Tobacco C55 Georges Vezina RC in PSA 6. There are also rookie cards of Maurice Richard, Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur, and more.

Heritage Auctions Winter Platinum Night Sports Auction

The Heritage Auctions Winter Platinum Night Sports Auction opens on February 2nd, and runs through February 24th and 25th. With close to 1,500 lots, there’s a lot to like here, with premium offerings throughout.

Items of Note

As mentioned, there are more premium offerings here than we can mention in this small space. There are the compulsory Mickey Mantle cards, including a 1952 Topps in PSA 8.5,  1951 Bowman PSA 8, and 1954 Bowman PSA 9.  There’s a beautiful 1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson in SGC 8.5.

The amazing cards keep coming, from the 1937 O-Pee-Chee A-118 Joe DiMaggio SGC 9, to the 1963 Topps Hank Aaron PSA 10, to the 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson in PSA 10, and beyond. The SGC 10 Gold Label 1976 Topps rookie card and the 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson rookie card in PSA 10 are two more gems. As is the PSA 9 1979 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie.

The memorabilia also offers some really exciting items. There’s a Babe Ruth glove, a Hank Aaron jersey, and bats from Ruth, Clemente, DiMaggio, and Mantle.  Additional jerseys include Willie Mays, Tom Brady, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, LeBron James, and more.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. This one is definitely worth a flip through to see the premium offerings.
