2024 Select Football Review: A Deep Rookie Class But A Steep Price Tag

2024 Select Football is back, bringing its chromium flair and tiered card structure into the spotlight. With a release date of May 14, 2024, this year’s set is actually arriving before the NFL season—a welcome change after last year’s delayed drop.

Boxes are available for preorder around $799.95, making this release a bit more accessible compared to last year’s $999 starting price.

Here’s everything you need to know about 2024 Select Football.

2024 Select Football overview

Select remains one of Panini’s strongest brands, ranking alongside Prizm and Optic as part of the “Big Three” of opti-chrome sports cards.

The trademark multi-tier base structure is back:

  • Concourse (most common)
  • Premier Level
  • Club Level
  • Suite Level
  • Field Level (rarest)

Each tier offers increasing scarcity, and Field Levels are especially prized among collectors.

And yes—XRC Rookie Redemptions are back too. These cards allow you to pull early redemptions for 2025 NFL rookies like Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward and others.

Select Football 2024 Box Configuration

Each 2024 Select Football Hobby Box contains:

  • 12 packs per box
  • 5 cards per pack
  • 2 Autographs
  • 1 Memorabilia Card
  • 15 Prizms (including 10 Silvers)
  • 2 Field Level cards

The First Off the Line (FOTL) boxes offer Neon Orange Rookie Patch Autos and limited-edition Neon Orange Pulsar or Tiger Prizm base parallels.

A few red flags with Football 2024 Select

While 2024 Select Football has plenty of upside, it’s important to acknowledge a few concerns.

Like every 2024 Panini football product, there are some caveats this year—particularly around autographs. Many of the top draft picks are working exclusively with Fanatics on their autographs, including:

  • Caleb Williams
  • AD Mitchell
  • Malik Nabers
  • Brenden Rice
  • Jayden Daniels
  • Brian Thomas Jr.
  • Xavier Worthy
  • Drake Maye

While Select isn’t a purely autograph-driven product (and much of its value comes from parallels and Field Level rookies), the absence of big-name rookie autos does dull some of the excitement—especially for collectors who chase ink.

If you’re investing in Select, keep in mind that parallels, short prints, and XRCs will carry more weight this year than autographs.

Key Inserts and SSPs

Returning favorites:

  • Phenomenon
  • Snapshots
  • Sensations

New and exciting:

  • Neon Icons insert set
  • Super Short Prints (SSPs) like:
    • Starcade
    • Color Wheel
    • Select Anniversary
    • Select Numbers (case hit)
    • Select Fractals (case hit)

Expect a colorful and deep insert lineup that mixes hobby staples with new short print excitement.

Parallel breakdown for 2024 Select

Each level (Concourse, Premier, Club, Suite, Field) features its own parallel rainbow, including:

  • Silver
  • Tri-Color (/199)
  • Blue (/149)
  • Light Blue (/99)
  • Purple (/75)
  • Neon Green (/49)
  • White (/35)
  • Tie-Dye (/25)
  • Gold (/10)
  • Green (/5)
  • Black (1/1)
  • Zebra (SSP)
  • Green & Black Snakeskin (/2)

Field Level parallels are more limited, adding value and scarcity to the rarest base cards.

Investing in 2024 Select Football

With a preorder price of $799, Select is releasing at the most affordable price in 2 years. But does that mean you need to pick some up?

One pro for the product is that each box has 60 cards, while many of the expensive recent releases that have only included 8 – 10 cards, total, so at least with Select you have more chances of pulling nice cards and getting your money back.

But still, you’re paying  almost $20/card with a new box of Select and it’s a big investment in something that might not pay off at all. Here’s our take on how to consider investing in Select.

Investing in sealed boxes of 2024 Select Football

If you’re investing in sealed boxes with the intent of holding them, here are some numbers to consider.

  • Current presale of 2024 hobby: $799
  • Current resell of 2023 hobby: $425
  • Current resell of 2022 hobby: $510
  • Current resell of 2021 hobby: $430
  • Current resell of 2020 hobby: $1,450
  • Current resell of 2019 hobby: $450
  • Current resell of 2018 hobby: $1,700

A couple of takeaways here.

For one, when I ran similar numbers last year, they were very close to what they are now. Most of the boxes have gained value (except for last years). That’s a great sign for Select – it’s aging very well.

And, the other point: the rookie class matters. And, fortunately, the 2024 rookie class seems to be pretty strong. The big chink in it’s armor is the lack of rookie autographs from the top prospects, but fortunately, you can still hit big cards in Select that are non-autos.

That said, at the $799 release price, even the deep rookie class might not justify the release price. I’ll personally be waiting on this product to see if it dips after release. If not, I’ll stay away from sealed product.

Investing in 2024 Select Football rookies

Select rookie cards are one of the blue-chip investments of modern Panini rookies – perhaps second to only Prizm. If you’re going to invest in just one card of anybody, Select is a great way to go.

Your best bet of making a guaranteed profit on this product is finding a few silvers or field-level rookies of players you believe in, buying them raw (after asking for more pictures), then getting them graded.

If you can scoop up silvers of the rookies you like and grade, then you’ll be set for a long-term hold. Collectors go nuts for Select PSA 10s, especially if you can get cards in one of the two rarest tiers.

But caution: don’t buy the first Select cards that appear on eBay for this year. The price will inevitably drop as the supply meets the demand.

Bottom line: Should you rip, hold or pass on 2024 Select Football?

Select is always a popular brand, and this year shows no signs of it slowing down.  And, for perhaps the first time for any of the 2023 products, I don’t think this one is a bad long-term investment. It seems to have a pretty high floor.

Select is a heavyweight in the industry and won’t slow down anytime soon.
