Santa Comes Early With December 2023 Sports Card Auction Action

The Thanksgiving turkey leftovers are hopefully gone and the holidays are just around the corner. That sound you hear probably isn’t reindeer on the roof (yet), it’s the December 2023 Auction Action! While the weather outside may be frightful, the auction deals remain delightful.

But what can collectors find in December auctions? When do they close? And what are some auction highlights? Grab an eggnog, come sit around the fire, and let’s dive in!

Clean Sweep Auctions 2 Day Memorabilia and Card Auction

Clean Sweep Auctions brings us their 2-Day Memorabilia and Card Auction, with auctions ending over two days on December 6^th and 7^th. The story here is old cardboard, autographs, and memorabilia. Baseball is king here, but football, hockey, basketball, boxing, and more.

There’s a lot to like in Clean Sweeps offering this month. There are a large number of signed baseball items, including single-signed baseballs, multi-signed balls, and team-signed balls. There’s a variety of baseball memorabilia, including publications and bats.

In terms of cards, there’s a fun mix of items, many raw, and many in lots. There’s also unopened, and a few graded cards. While there are a few interesting ultra-modern cards, the bulk of the cards here are vintage. The number of signed vintage cards, many dating to the 1930s, is really impressive to see.

A few interesting examples include an autographed Nolan Ryan rookie card, a Sandy Koufax autographed book, and a Wayne Gretzky-signed hockey stick. These are just the tip of the iceberg, as this one is well worth a closer look.

Grey Flannel Auctions December 2023 Holiday Auction

Grey Flannel Auctions brings us their December 2023 Holiday Auction, which wraps up on December 10^th. While there are cards in this one, they take a back seat to jerseys, shoes, bats, gloves, and other memorabilia.

All sports are represented, although many of the premium lots are basketball-related.

As mentioned above, many of the premium lots are basketball-related, and most of those are uniforms or shoes, making this auction a bit different than your standard cardboard affair.

The uniform offerings are a Who’s Who of basketball royalty. Pete Maravich, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and many more are all represented.  You’ll see shoes from Jordan, LeBron James, and more as well.

Hockey fans will find items featuring Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux and many more. Football fans will find Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, and a whole lot more.  

The baseball side of things features everything from a 1952 Topps Mantle in PSA 1.5 to a Pete Rose autographed jersey, to the actual ball Bert Blyleven threw to record his 3,000^th strikeout.

The above is just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of interesting lots that are worth your time to take a look through.

Heritage Auction brings us their December 2023 Sports Showcase Auction, which closes just before Christmas. The lots offer a nice mix of sports, brands, and the like.

There are a lot of great examples of iconic cards, sets, and players here. For example, there is a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle in PSA 5. There’s a high-grade early Sports Illustrated with Bobby Orr on the cover. There’s an impressive near Master Set of 1952 Topps, missing just the Mantle to be complete.

A 1984 Star Co. Michael Jordan in PSA 7, a 2000 Fleer Traditions Tom Brady Gold Autograph, and a 2003 Upper Deck SP Signature Edition LeBron James all are featured.

Babe Ruth fan? There’s a 1921 E121 American Caramel in SGC 2 and a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth in PSA 3.5. There are SGC 3 and SGC 4 copies of the iconic 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson. There are two amazing oddball Roberto Clemente items in the 1968 Topps 3D and 1967 Topps Test Stand-Up.

The above is just the tip of the iceberg, as there are plenty of other great lots worth exploring.
