With the reintroduction of Pokémon EX, the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet inaugural set – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet took the Pokémon TCG world by storm.
The set contained over 190 cards, including at least 30 trainer cards and 10 new Pokémon ex cards. About a year after its release in March 2023, the Scarlet & Violet series has several notable expansions.
With several outstanding expansions such as Temporal Forces and 151, Scarlet & Violet is considered by most TCG fans as one of the most notable Pokémon TCG series.
The latest expansion, Shrouded Fable, is set to bring even more excitement to the franchise.
On May 16, 2024, The Pokémon Company surprised TCG fans by announcing the third special expansion for the Scarlet & Violet Series. This new special expansion, Shrouded Fable, will be available on August 2, 2024.
The set description on the Pokémon Center is as follows:
“Rumors swirl and memories deceive as the march of time beats on in the land of Kitakami! Prepare for nightfall and discover a malevolent presence as Pecharunt ex commands the Loyal Three—Okidogi ex, Munkidori ex, and Fezandipiti ex—to do its nefarious bidding. Meanwhile, Revavroom ex plugs into the grid to Terastallize into a Lightning type, and Kingdra ex makes a royal splash in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Shrouded Fable expansion!”
Although PokéBeach had hinted at a special English set coming in August, the Shrouded Fable announcement came out of the blues, especially since TCG players were gearing up for the release of Twilight Masquerade.
However, while there was no build-up to the announcement of this new Sword and Shield expansion, the upcoming set has been well-received by both TCG players and Pokémon collectors.
Shrouded Fable introduces over 95 cards, including 10 ultra rare Pokémon ex, Tera Pokémon ex and Supporter cards.
This set will also contain three ACE SPEC rare Trainer cards, 15 illustration rare Pokémon, five special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards and five hyper rare gold etched cards. Shrouded Fable will comprise cards from the Japanese Night Wanderer set.
Like the Japanese set Night Wanderer, this special Sword and Shield expansion’s focus is on the Loyal Three of Kitakami, Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti, alongside the mythical Pecharunt, which will all be getting EX cards.
Besides the Pokémon roster, Shrouded Fable also treats collectors to several changes. One significant change is that parallel foil cards will feature a new, unique foil pattern surrounding the card artwork.
Additionally, players can identify cards in the parallel foil set by viewing the expansion code at the bottom-left corner of the card.
Usually, this information was in a black box with white text. However, in Shrouded Fable, it will be illustrated in a white box with black text.

Pecharunt was originally discovered in The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero DLCs and is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon. It is the leader of the Loyal Three and is associated with Ogerpon.
For TCG, players can use Pecharunt ex to switch in another Darkness-Type Pokémon that’s currently benched with its Subjugating Chains ability. Interestingly, the Shrouded Fables set will be legal for the Pokémon World Championships 2024.
Away from TCG, the art on these cards are amazing! As a special set, Shrouded Fable contains several promo cards, which, while not very powerful in gameplay, are exceptionally beautifully designed to appeal to TCG fans and collectors alike. Already, the Greninja promo card is stunning.
It’s easily one of the best promos in a good while. While the Night Wandering set is great on its own, Shrouded Fable adds much more to ensure a remarkable set. There are several promo cards and rare illustration cards with fantastic artwork.
