2024 Topps Diamond Icons value

2024 Diamond Icons is an undeniably high-end, autograph-driven product. But are these pricy boxes a good option to buy and hold unopened? Let’s see what recent comps from hobby boxes from the last few years can tell us about the potential for 2024.

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2024$3,800-$4,000
2023$3,100
2022NA
2021NA

Based on how seldom these sell on the secondary market, it’s hard to draw any useful info on how these hold their value over a few years unopened. Clearly, these are either being opened or squirreled away somewhere, but aren’t changing hands much.

What about in terms of singles? What can a look at recent sales of singles from 2023 Topps Diamond Icons tell us about the potential higher water mark for 2024?

The top recent sale on eBay was a Dual Patch Autograph /5 of Ichiro and Ohtani, which sold for $4,000. A 1/1 Diamond Relics Ohtani in PSA 8 sold for $2,000.

A 1/1 Diamond Auto Relic Book of Judge and Jeter sold for $1,925, as did a Dual Auto Dual Patch /10 card of Ohtani and Trout in BGS 9.

Gold Ink 1/1 Autos of Matt McLain and Derek Jeter (PSA 10) sold for $1,800 and $1,700, respectively. A handful more cards sold for north of $1,000, with the focus being on low serial numbered cards of top names.

So, the potential is there for some valuable hits, although that’s far from guaranteed, as the low-numbered cards of top players are naturally tough hits.

Topps Diamond Icons 2024 pros & cons

Every product has pros and cons when deciding whether to purchase or break them. What are some of the pros and cons of 2024 Topps Diamond Icons?

Shop for boxes of 2024 Topps Diamond Icons on eBay

Pros

  • These are undeniably high-end-looking cards on premium stock with a very solid design. They should be desirable.
  • With 9 autographs per box, plus a relic hit, these bring only the hits with no filler.
  • There are literal diamonds in some of these cards, a pretty amazing hit potential.

Cons

  • At around $4,000 per box, these are outside of the collecting budget of most collectors.
  • Again, at the high price point, will these boxes often provide significant return? The chance is there, but the odds of a box providing far less return than the cost seem far more likely.

Final thoughts on 2024 Topps Diamond Icons

2024 Topps Diamond Icons is a high-end product driven by autographs, with no filler.

While there’s a chance at some big hits, that’s far from guaranteed and a break could quickly turn into an expensive disappointment. But then again, there’s the chance at pulling cards with an actual diamond in it.
