Topps Doubles the Price of 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter X – Still Worth a Break?

2024 Topps Allen & Ginter X

Sometimes a product comes out and it just doesn’t sound like it will work. A dark-themed, streamlined version of an already somewhat less-than-mainstream product? Doesn’t sound like a recipe for success.

Yet Allen & Ginter X seems to work, to the point where Topps more than doubled the price for 2024. But what will collectors find inside 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter X? What are the hits? And are these worth the new, higher price tag?

2024 Topps Allen & Ginter X value

2024 Topps Allen & Ginter X is a dark-mode, streamlined version of the original. But is it a good candidate to buy and hold unopened? Let’s see what recent comp prices for hobby boxes from the last few years can suggest to us.

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2024$150
2023$240-250
2022$145-185
2021$135-165

The prices are all over the place, as the product has changed slightly over the years. There does seem to be at least some potential here for the boxes to maintain their value, and potentially even gain some.

You could certainly do worse regarding a product to buy and hold unopened than Topps Allen & Ginter X.

What about in terms of singles? What can a look at recent sales of 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter X singles tell us about the potential for 2024?

The high water mark was a Gunnar Henderson Mini Red /5 that sold for just south of $1,000. A Rafael Nadal Mini Silver Framed Auto /25 sold for around $800, as did an Anthony Richardson Gold Ink Mini Auto /5. A Mike Trout /10 in PSA 9 sold for around $400.

A Mark Vientos Red Mini /5 in PSA 10 sold for $350. And a number of cards landed at the $300 price point, including an Anna Leigh Waters Auto in PSA 9/10, a Ken Griffey Jr. Red Mini /5, and a Dennis Eckersley Gold Framed Auto /5.

So, there is certainly the potential for some nice hits, although they obviously are going to be the tougher pulls of big names. While the hits are unlikely to be earth-shaking, there’s at least a solid chance of significant profit, although it’s far from guaranteed.
