2025 Topps Chrome Black value

2025 Topps Chrome Black is an early-season chromium product with a cool, dark design. But are they a good candidate for buy-and-hold unopened?

Let’s see what recent hobby box comps for boxes from the last few years can tell us about the potential for 2025.

Shop for 2025 Topps Chrome Black boxes on eBay

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2025$170/$250-300
2024$300-375
2023$145-160
2022$185-200
2021$125-150

Prices are a bit all over the place, for sure. Tie that in with the rising drop in the price of the product, plus changing formats, and the outlook is a bit cloudy.

2023 Topps Chrome Black sells for quite a bit more than the release price. But prior years, while they hold value, haven’t increased in value significantly. So, the product looks like at least a good candidate for investment.

What about in terms of singles? What can a look at 2024 Topps Chrome Black singles tell us about the potential high water mark for 2025?

The highest-selling cards are all about Shohei Ohtani. A Raywave Refractor numbered 10/10 in a PSA 10 slab sold for $10,000.

An Orange parallel Autographs /25 sold for $8,000, $5,368, $4,500, and $4,175. A Legends Refractor autograph of Ken Griffey Jr. in PSA 10 sold for $4,150 and $3,950. A Jackson Holliday Orange Lava Auto /15 sold for $4,000, as did an Ohtani Image Variation SP Black Speckle /10 in PSA 10.

Prices go down from there, but there are some valuable hits available in Chrome Black boxes, although the odds of the best hits are, of course, long.

2025 Topps Chrome Black pros & cons

Every product has pros and cons when deciding whether to purchase or break them. What are some of the pros and cons of 2025 Topps Chrome Black?

Shop for 2025 Topps Chrome Black boxes on eBay

Pros

  • With an encased autograph and a mix of inserts and parallels in a small package, these make a potential quick, fun break.
  • Based on sales of 2023 Topps Chrome Black, the potential high-end hits are here. While the odds are long, the chance of a noteworthy hit does exist.

Cons

  • With fewer than 15 cards per box, these are certainly not inexpensive.
  • The higher price tag and small number of cards mean that the chance of a box that doesn’t return anything close to a good return is very real.
  • As an early-season premium product, will these be overshadowed by other products that come later?

Final thoughts on 2025 Topps Chrome Black

2025 Topps Chrome Black offers up one encased autograph per box and some interesting parallels. Rising box prices should give you some pause, at least if ROI and value are your goals.
