Think July, and you think HOT, at least in most places. Of course, you may also think “vacation”.
After a crowded June Auction scene, July sees a significant slowdown in the number of auctions from the major houses.
That being said, there’s still a lot to like this month, especially if you’re a fan of old baseball cards.
The Clean Sweep $5 Reserve Auction skews heavily towards baseball, and pre-1960 baseball at that. There are a handful of other items, but the heart of this auction is old cardboard of the national pastime.
The auction has a mix of graded and raw cards, including a number of raw cards in lower condition (collector) grades.

Items of Note
Pre-War baseball cards make up the largest “category” of this auction, followed by post-war (1946-60). One cool example of a pre-war card is a 1935 Goudey Ruth/Maranville “4-in1” in SGC 1. There are plenty of T206, T201, T205, and many earlier 20th-century cards.
The post-war big names are all well represented here, too. Mickey Mantle? There are 1952 Bowman, 1953 Topps, 1955 Bowman, 1956 Topps, and more. Willie Mays? There are examples of the 1952 Bowman, 1953 Topps, 1954 Bowman, and more.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, with lots of top players, oddball sets, and cards across the spectrum of condition and rarity to explore.
This month’s Heritage auction goes big for summer. There’s a lot to like in this, with some really impressive cardboard. The auction skews heavily towards cards over memorabilia and other items.
The lots also skew heavily towards baseball, although all sports are represented in some way or another.

Items of Note
This auction skews pre-War and before, although there are cards from all years. This includes items as old as 1871. There are cards of “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and many more.
Post-War fans will find some impressive examples of cards of greats such as Satchel Paige, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and all the other big names you’d come to expect.
Football fans will find rookie cards of Joe Montana, Patrick Mahomes II, and Tom Brady. Basketball fans will find hard-to-find rookie cards of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic.
Heritage Auctions has weekly Sunday auctions ending on July 2, July 9, and July 16.
With “only” two major auctions this month, it feels like a light month. But if you dig under the covers, you’ll find a lot to like, especially if you’re a fan of vintage baseball, either graded or raw.
