June is always one of the most significant months for sports card releases. Basketball stays a hot product because of the headlines made by the NBA, while more football and basketball cards begin to hit the shelves as well.

This month will produce a steady flow of products from those three major sports, designed to keep collectors, breakers, and flippers busy. (Please note: all release dates are subject to change.)

Noteworthy June Sports Card Releases

2021 Topps Finest Baseball (June 4)

Topps Finest is a historical Topps product and one that, in many ways, can claim partial responsibility for grandfathering in all the refractor-heavy chromium sets that are incredibly popular among 2021 collectors. 2021 Topps Finest has a sharp new design for the 2021 season and will be available for a reasonable price tag of about $250.

Each hobby box contains 2 mini boxes, and each of those contains six packs of five cards. The 60 cards include 2 autographs.

2020 Panini Impeccable Basketball (June 4)

Impeccable fits comfortably in the “high-end” product discussion. Boxes pre-order for around $2,200, and each box contains a 9 card pack.

Of these 9 cards, collectors can expect to find 5 on-card autographs, 3 base or base parallels, and either one silver insert card, a gold insert card, or a Stainless Stars insert.

Like all the expensive boxes with few cards, ripping Impeccable is a swing for the fences.

2020-21 Panini Chronicles Soccer (June 4)

Looking to get into soccer cards? This is a good place to start.

Chronicles Soccer is a product that saw a significant surge in popularity in 2020 as more and more collectors become tuned in to the value and popularity of soccer cards. These boxes contact 3 packs of 15 cards, with 3 autographs or memorabilia cards per box on average. The price looks to be about $600.

As with all Chronicles products, this one blends the most popular Panini brands in one box.

2021 Topps Series 2 Baseball (June 9)

Topps Series 2 looks to deliver more classic baseball cards to collectors in early June. Series 2 features news rookies and updated roster adjustments. You can see some of the updates you can expect in this checklist. Topps, once again, has kept the price in check for this release. Even resold, the boxes go for about $140, which leaves collectors plenty of room to make a profit. Each box contains 24 packs of 14 cards with one relic or autograph, so you get lots of cards for the price you pay.

2021 Prizm Draft Picks Football (June 11)

Prizm Draft Picks will presumably be the hottest of the college football cards that hit the shelves every year before the NFL-jersey brethren. You can order these boxes for $525.  They contain eight packs of 5 cards each, with 5 autographs, 5 silver Prizm, and ten other Prizms per box on average.

But a word of caution to potential investors or flippers: while these cards are the ever-popular Prizm brand, their value will drop significantly as soon as NFL Prizm releases, featuring the players in their NFL jersey (instead of college). Therefore, we believe most of the money made off this product will be from short-term investments.

2021 Panini Chronicles Racing (June 23)

Fasten your seatbelts; Chronicles Racing is here. If you’re a fan of racing, this will be one of the major releases for your sport this season.

Each box contains 6 packs of 8 cards and 3 autographs, 1 memorabilia, and 2 spectra cards on average. The price is TBA at this point, but you can keep checking here as we get closer to release (and as you recover from my opening-line pun. Sorry—I had to do it).

2021 Topps Stadium Club Baseball (June 23)

Topps Stadium Club has been around for over 30 years, so it’s a hobby classic. If there’s a defining aspect of the product, it’s the photography. Most of the cards don’t have borders, leaving plenty of room for a sharp edge-to-edge picture that makes the cards look unlike anything else on the market.

The rookie cards may not carry as much weight as the standard Topps version. However, even if the rookies don’t pull the same attention as the standard Topps versions, it’s an appealing design.

Stadium Club boxes come at a reasonable $150 price for 16 packs of 8 cards. Each box contains 2 autographs, 1 Chrome Parallel, 1 Triumvirates insert, and a single wrapped oversized base variation box loader.

2021 Panini Chronicles Draft Picks Football (June 23)

Chronicles Draft Picks is a lot like Prizm Draft Picks: a taste of what’s to when the NFL product releases. Keep in mind that these cards feature the upcoming rookie class players in their college uniforms. Therefore, while the cards will have good short-term value, their long-term value is questionable. Still, a good pull can net you a good chunk of change.

In true Chronicles fashion, this product combines a good deal of Panini brands in one box. For example, one pack could contain a Select, Optic, Status, and Flux card. While some looks will be more popular than others, this is still an excellent product for big pull odds (with so many brands self-contained in one box, there are lots of low-numbered options for each player). These $400 boxes come with six packs of 8 cards, including 3 autographs, 1 memorabilia, and 12 opti-chrome cards.

2020-21 Panini Optic Basketball (June 30)

Optic basketball is a familiar product for any collector because it is one of the most popular products for both basketball and football every year. It’s easy to see why: the chromium cards come with many eye-catching parallels to chase, while the rookie cards look timeless and classic.

Optic boxes contain 20 packs of 4 cards, so it’s also a great product to open if you like products that allow for a lot of ripping. That said, this box will set you back $800 for the 80 cards.

2020-21 Panini Noir Basketball (June 30)

Panini Noir is an unusual product, to say the least. However, it has found a market, and therefore, the product has stuck around.  The theme of Panini Noir is the Film noir movie genre of the 1940s and 50s. So if you like that aesthetic, you will enjoy these artistic and dark cards.

Panini Noir is another high-end product: each box is only one pack of 10 cards for about $1600. Fortunately, 7 of the ten total cards are memorabilia or autograph cards, so this is a very hit-heavy product.

The 2020-21 Panini Noir Basketball cards are inspired by the classic film genre.

2021 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions (June 30)

Goodwin Champions kind of feels like Upper Deck’s way of making a statement that they do more than just hockey cards. A “remember us?” sort of thing. The product is a strange mix of pop culture figures, athletes, and lots of other random things, such as animals. While Goodwin Champions is hard to figure out, it’s also the only product where you can pull a Michael Jordan card, a Jeopardy! Champion card and lion card in the same pack. Also—perhaps most notably—this is the only product that can still feature LeBron and Jordan autos, given their exclusive rights with Upper Deck.

If you’re looking to flip these… don’t. Most buyers will not see much profit off the $130 boxes unless you pull a massive autograph. They are, however, a fun rip.
