
February is a big month on the sports calendar. The Super Bowl ends the NFL season, while spring training kicks off the MLB year. This year, the month starts with a bang, with two major auctions wrapping up on February 1st.
What will collectors find in these two sports card auctions? What are some of the key lots? Whether you’re a bidder or a dreamer, there’s much to like here!
Goldin Auctions brings us their January Elite Auction, which wraps up on February 1, 2025. This auction skews towards modern, with basketball being the most prolific sport, although all sports are well-represented.

The Goldin January Elite auction has much to like, and many top lots feature modern cards that will fetch a pretty penny. For example, a 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection LeBron James Auto in Beckett 10/10 should excite hoops fans. The 2023-24 Panini Select Courtside Black Finite Prizm Victor Wembanyama 1/1 in PSA 10 will, too.
Other big basketball lots include 2003-04 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor LeBron James in PSA 9, a 2023-24 Topps Chrome UCC SuperFractor Lamine Yamal in PSA 10, and a 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autographs Gold Refractor Shohei Ohtani in BGS 9.5/10.
Football fans will find a 2018 Panini Prizm Gold Prizm Josh Allen /10 in PSA 10, a Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Rookie Ticket Proof TB12 Collection in PSA 10 and a 2000 Bowman Chrome Refractor Brady in BGS 9.5.
While the auction skews modern, there’s plenty of vintage to love, including 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle cards in PSA 4 and SGC 3.5. Other vintage gems include high-grade rookie cards of recently deceased icons Pete Rose and Rickey Henderson.
Heritage Auctions brings us their Winter Sports Card Catalog Auction, which wraps up on February 1, 2025. This is a huge auction, with close to 2,500 lots representing a mix of sports and eras.

There are several great Michael Jordan lots to lead off this auction. These include a 1984-85 Star Co. Michael Jordan in PSA 8.5, a 1997-98 SkyBox Metal Universe Michael Jordan in PSA 5, and a 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan in PSA 10.
There are also plenty of lots featuring the 1909-11 T206 cards, including a 1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 350/30 Eddie Plank PSA 3, a pop 3 card.
Speaking of pop 3 cards, there’s a 1997 Skybox E-X 2001 Allen Iverson in PSA 5, one of only three produced. There’s a 2020 Panini Immaculate Collection Joe Burrow Premium Patch Rookie Autograph with a PSA 10 Auto. Vintage basketball fans will enjoy the 1948 Bowman George Mikan Rookie in SGC 8.
Other vintage gems well worth a look include a 1953 Bowman Color Mickey Mantle in PSA 9, a 1909-11 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson SGC 5, and a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 in PSA 8.
There’s a 1962 Topps 5th and 6th series wax box that’d be a blast to open. There’s also plenty of unopened materials, autographed items, programs and ticket, and much more.
The Collector Connection brings us their Post War Sports Cards & Memorabilia XXXVII, which ends on February 2, 2025. The auction this month is heavy on the post-war era, as the name implies. It also skews somewhat to baseball, although all sports are represented. As is generally the case with The Collector Connection, these auctions are predominantly for collector grade items, not museum pieces.

The auction includes iconic vintage cards from all the biggest names in the post-war baseball era. This includes Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, and Ted Williams. Big names from other sports include Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and more.
Other cards of note include a 1987 Bellingham Mariners Ken Griffey Jr. in PSA 10, a 1958 Topps Football Jim Brown in SGC 1, and a 1954 Topps Jackie Robinson in SGC 1. There are plenty of great cards from classic vintage sets like 1950 Bowman, 1952 Topps, 1958 Hires Root Beer, and many, many more.
Complete sets in the auction include 1956 Topps (my all-time favorite, 1965 Topps, 1969 Topps, 1970 Topps, among others.
