Cardlines Guide To The Essential Sports Card Auctions Of October 2024

October brings a lot of things—cooler weather and bright displays of fall leaves and the baseball playoffs, culminating with the World Series. And of course, Halloween wraps up the month in candy-crazed and costume-clad style.

The auction action remains hot while the temperature is getting cooler in most parts of the northern hemisphere. October 2024 brings us one of the most-watched auctions of the year, plus a month full auction action.

Headline Auction of the Month: Goldin Shohei Ohtani Actual 50th Home Run Ball

The headline auction this month has only one item. It’s a big one, however, and it’s well worth a look. The buzz about just how high this item will go is palpable. The auction wraps up on October 16, 2024.

Auction Basics

Auction:Headline Auction of the Month: Goldin Shohei Ohtani Actual 50th Home Run Ball

Auction Dates:Ends Wed, 10/16/24, 10:00 PM
Bid Open:Open
Number of Lots:1
Bidding Guide:FAQ
Buyer’s Premium20% (an additional 3% for credit card payments)

Items of Note

On Sept. 19, 2024, Shohei Ohtani became the first member of the 50/50 club in baseball history. That’s 50 home runs and 50 steals in the same season, for anyone not in the know. Just that fact was amazing and historic.

The fact that he did it with potentially the greatest offensive night in baseball history, though, made it an epic night that won’t soon be forgotten. To cross the 50/50 threshold, Ohtani went 6-for-6 with 3 home runs, two doubles, two stolen bases, and 10 RBI.

This auction has one item. The Home Run Ball that Ohtani hit in the 7th inning of that game to enter the 50/50 club. There have been lawsuits about the ownership of the ball, and the excitement about seeing just how high the bidding could go can be felt around the sport.

It’s a historic piece that celebrates perhaps the best offensive night in baseball history to establish the 50/50 club. It’s a celebration of baseball like we haven’t seen in a while!
