Topps Continues Tradition To Bring Collectors Closer To Hobby With A “Vote On The #1” For 2024 Topps

2024 topps ripped vote

Topps continues to be at the forefront of bringing collectors closer to the hobby.

The most recent example of that is its 2024 Topps Series 1 promotion, whereby collectors could vote for who should be the #1 card in the iconic set. The initiative has been put in collectors’ hands since 2016.

Although the promo has been completed, collectors were eligible to vote up to 10 times per day from October 6th to October 10th for the player should get the honor in the 2024 Topps set.

Topps will announce at a later date which player received the most votes.

Who are the top candidates?

Topps allowed collectors to vote on a pre-determined list of players. So we know that the #1 card will come from one of these players:

Previous #1s

Appearing #1 in the Topps Series 1 set has long been an honor held for some of the game’s most noteworthy, exciting and collectible players. In years past, future Hall of Famers, All-Stars and phenom rookies have graced this prestigious spot in the set.

Here’s a look at who has appeared as the #1 over the last decade or so:

  • Juan Soto (2023)
  • Shohei Ohtani (2022)
  • Fernando Tatis (2021)
  • Mike Trout (2020)
  • Ronald Acuna Jr. (2019)
  • Aaron Judge (2018)
  • Kris Bryant (2017)
  • Mike Trout (2016)
  • Derek Jeter (2015)
  • Mike Trout (2014)

Although a new player is generally selected each year, the most special players have received the the honor multiple times. Mike Trout, for instance, has been the #1 card in three of the last ten years.

Retired players to appear #1 multiple times include Hank Aaron (5), Alex Rodriguez (5), Nolan Ryan (4) including three years in a row from 1990 to 1992, Ted Williams (3), Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson (3).

Voting for #1 Since 2016

Topps has been allowing collectors to vote on the #1 card in Series 1 since 2016 when Mike Trout was named the first card in 2016 Topps, as they also did in 2020.

Fans also have named Bryant, Judge, Acuna, Tatis, Ohtani and then Soto last year. Who do you think will be named #1 for 2024? Tell us on Twitter (x).
