2022 Fleer Ultra Avengers basics
The long-running relationship between Fleer and Marvel makes a comeback with Ultra Avengers. Ultra is the premium product from Fleer, utilizing higher quality card stock than typical Fleer cards.
This year is the first Ultra release under the Avengers name, but there’s a long history of Ultra Marvel sets dating back to when Fleer was owned by Marvel.
Some notable examples of past sets include 1994 Ultra X-Men and 1997 Ultra Spider-Man. Fleer being purchased by Upper Deck in 2005 proved quite disruptive to the collaboration between the two brands, but they now return with a fresh take on superhero cards.

Release formats for Fleer Ultra Avengers 2022
Ultra Avengers will receive a hobby box, blaster box, and e-Pack release in its inaugural year. We don’t have information on the blaster or e-Pack releases yet, but we’ll update you here once we do.

What to expect from 2022 Fleer Ultra Avengers
Fleer Ultra Avengers features stunning artwork of various Marvel characters and some nostalgic inserts that serve as a callback to the Ultra release in the 90s. Some of the artists that contributed to the release include Jason Juta, Ray Lago, and John Stanko.
The set is filled to the brim with inserts and parallels, as well as some chase pieces for collectors. Every hobby box is expected to have one big hit and two of the more common inserts.
Despite its name, Ultra Avengers draw from all aspects of Marvel Comics, not just the core group of Avengers. Expect to find some lesser-known heroes and villains when opening wax, not just ones from the massively popular Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Value Stamps is a hobby and e-Pack exclusive with 50 cards. All cards in the insert are numbered /99.

Ultra Power Insert
Marvel fans will want to keep an eye on this insert, as Ultra Power consists of 30 of the strongest characters in Marvel with 1:36 pack odds.
Ultra Stars Insert
Despite a similar name, Ultra Stars is quite a bit different than Ultra Powers. prominently incorporates stars into it’s artwork. It has 50 cards with 1:3 pack odds.

Comic Clippings Memorabilia
Comic Clippings is unique due to having authentic pieces of comics featured on the card. 100 cards are in this hobby and e-Pack exclusive insert with various numberings from /15 to /50.
Comic Clippings Coinage Memorabilia
Similar to the previous insert, Comic Clippings Coinage features cutouts from previous comic books. This insert has the added feature of a coin being included on the card. These 40 cards are numbered /12 to /40 and are a hobby and e-Pack exclusive.
Comic Covers Memorabilia
Comic Covers shows off past comic book covers. It is a hobby and e-Pack exclusive with 100 cards numbering everywhere from a 1/1 to /108.
Final thoughts on 2022 Fleer Ultra Avengers
Marvel and the Avengers are one of the strongest brands on Earth, so a branded release named after them isn’t too surprising. The execution of this release remains to be seen, especially with the appearance of beautiful hand-drawn artwork superposed over generic digital backgrounds.
It’s a necessary evil for sports sets or releases that use actual photos, but it was entirely avoidable here. Seeing backgrounds that worked better with the artwork would have been refreshing to see.
Overall, this seems like an intriguing product for big comic book or Marvel fans, but remains to be seen how it’s perceived by the public.
