Will Disney Lorcana: Rise Of The Floodborn TCG Live Up To The Hype Of The 1st Lorcana Chapter?
Disney’s bold move to break into the trading card game market has been a tremendous success.
When Disney announced the inaugural release, TCG players skeptically debated its prospect. While Disney is a Mega-brand, the big three have long dominated the trading card market – Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon.
At best, players expected Disney Lorcana to carve out a niche following.
However, the Disney Lorcana release has surpassed all expectations. With thousands of fans queuing for hours to lay their hands on a box to Ravensburger announcing that more units are coming on social media and plans to reprint the release in 2024 to meet demand.
The game is selling well and reaching beyond the typical trading card crowd. Now, we’re set to have a second serving of this impressive series – Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn. The new set will bring extra stories, cards, and mechanics to the Disney Lorcana TCG.
This article shall cover everything about this release and why you should be excited about it, whether you’re a TCG player or an investor.
Disney Lorcana pre order information
The official Lorcana website also has a store locator feature to help you find a nearby store. Due to the demand, most LGS are limiting preorders to active players of Lorcana.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn Lore
For those interested in the lore and background of Lorcans’s second chapter, the official news release from the Disney Lorcana website provides us with some information.
This set dips into the inky origins of Floodborn glimmers. The six magical inks… Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel, were released in a mixed-up chaotic form, resulting in a mysterious flood which damaged the Great Illuminary. When storyborn or dreamborn glimmers encounter this mixed ink, they surge with a power that changes them, transforming them into floodborn glimmers. As the magical ink poured out of the illuminary, treasured lore went with it, including King Triton’s powerful trident.

Disney Lorcana Chapter 2 release date + details
On September 12th, one week after Ravensburger announced they would increase production of Disney Lorcana packs and reprint the first set of cards, the company announced the second chapter of the Lorcana TCG.
Named Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn, the chapter will feature over 200 new cards with fantastic new artwork to complement cards from the first chapter.
According to Ravensburger Global Head of Games Filip Francke, the fans were eager for more Lorcana cards.
The response to the release of the Disney Lorcana TCG has been astounding. The game has only been available for about a month, and fans are already eager for more. As we work diligently behind the scenes to meet current demand, we’re also planning incredible updates and new sets for years to come that we can’t wait to share. We’re excited to reveal a little more about what is coming this holiday to expand the game and story for this year.”
Rise of the Floodborn would provide new shiny cards and further expand on the lore of Lorcana. Not only will there be new characters in this second chapter, but there will also be new stories and a brand-new game mechanic.
Characters missing from the first chapter, such as Winnie the Pooh and Tiana, are present in this new set. At the same time, stories, and movies like The Jungle Book, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Zootopia, and Raya and the Last Dragon will all make their Disney Lorcana debut.
Like the first chapter, Rise of the Floodborn would be released at local game stores and Disney Parks two weeks before its mass release on Friday, November 17th. Its mass release at big box retailers is scheduled for December 1st, just in time for the holidays.
Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn preorder products
Rise of the Floodborn explores the origins of the floodborn characters. It will have characters from Raya and the Last Dragon and Zootopia. There’s also a new keyword sure to interest avid players.
As expected, the layout of the cards and the rarity symbols are unchanged from the first set. While all details for the new set aren’t available yet, Ravensburger provided a glimpse of what products will be available for this second chapter in the initial announcement. Here’s what we know for sure.
Booster Box + Packs
Booster packs are the primary way of collecting Lorcana. They contain twelve random cards from Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn.
There are three booster pack designs with Mulan, the Queen of Hearts, and the Beast. Players can use cards from booster packs to customize their deck with abilities and characters beyond those in starter decks.
Each booster box comes with 24 unsleeved packs, and each pack contains the following:

- 3 uncommon cards
- 2 rare, super rare, or legendary cards
- 1 foil card (random rarity level)
- Booster packs have a recommended retail price of $5.99 and $143.76 for the boxes (24 packs x $5.99.)
You need a deck of sixty cards to play the Disney Lorcana TCG. Started decks contain preconstructed decks with a specific card list.
Starter decks are perfect for people new to the game or players who wish to experience the game with a deck designed and tested by Team Lorcana.
There are two starter deck offerings in the Lorcana Rise of the Floodborn set, and each starter deck includes the following:

- 11 game tokens
- 1 rulebook
- 1 booster pack containing 12 randomized cards.
- The recommended retail price for the starter decks is $16.99.
While all product types of Lorcana in the first chapter were well received, the Illumineer’s trove was even more accepted. Packs quickly sold out in stores, and they’ve held incredible value.
The Ilumineer Trove doesn’t just offer players cards, it comes with many accessories. These include a Player Guide with deckbuilding tips and game strategies.
The Illumineer’s Trove also includes:

Accessories – Playmat, Deck Boxes, Sleeves
As with the first chapter, Lorcana’s Rise of the Floodborn will come with several themed accessories. Protect your collection from wear and tear with themed card sleeves, deck boxes, and playmats.
Playmat features artwork of Disney characters with a fabric top that prevents damage during gameplay. It can also be used as a desk mat or mouse pad. The anti-slip bottom keeps the mat in place when playing a game. The Lorcana Rise of the Floodborn TCG playmats will feature Beast and Winnie the Pooh.
Each pack contains 65 matte-finish card sleeves featuring a Disney Lorcana TCG glimmer. The Rise of the Floodborn TCG deck boxes will feature Sisu and Mulan art.
Each deck box can hold up to 80 sleeved cards. Like the card sleeves, the Rise of the Floodborn TCG deck boxes will feature Sisu and Mulan art.
Investment potential of the Lorcana TCG
While the success of the Lorcana TCG has attracted several players to the game, it has also attracted the attention of several investors. Let’s consider how well the first chapter of the Disney Lorcana TCG has performed as regards monetary value.
Investing in Disney Lorcana boxes
Let’s look at the resale values for the various boxes of the last Disney Lorcana release.
|Release Format||Recommended Retail Price||Current Price|
|The First Chapter Gift Set||$29.99||$56|
|The First Chapter Illumineer’s Trove||$29.99||$125|
The most significant return on investment can be found in the Illumineer’s Trove, which now sells for over $125. It is worth mentioning that the Gift Set reached heights of over $120 before gradually settling at around $56 to $60.
These prices signify just a little over two to three times the RRP. It doesn’t offer significant ROI for investors who bought these boxes to resell for a profit.
Investing in Singles
Two sets of cards hold the most value in the Disney Lorcana TCG: enchanted cards and promo cards. Several non-enchanted cards sell for quite a reasonable figure, like Rapunzel’s, which costs $50.
However, the most value can be found in collecting enchanted and promo cards. Let’s see the value of some of the best-performing singles from the last Disney Lorcana release. All prices quoted are from the TCGplayer Price Guide website.
Top five Disney Lorcana promo cards
|Diseny Lorcana Promo Cards||Value|
|Captain Hook – Forceful Duelist||$1,251|
|Cruella de Vil – Miserable As Usual||$1,200|
|Maleficent – Monstrous Dragon||$1,251|
|Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor||$1,279|
|Robin Hood – Unrivaled Archer||$1,200|
Top five Disney Lorcana Enchanted cards
|Disney Lorcana Enchanted Cards||Value|
|Elsa – Spirit of Winter (Alternate Art)||$713|
|Mickey Mouse – Wayward Sorcerer (Alternate Art)||$300.44|
|Tinker Bell – Giant Fairy (Alternate Art)||$278.4|
|Aurora – Dreaming Guardian (Alternate Art)||$241|
|Maui – Hero to All (Alternate Art)||$209|
For investors looking for ample return on interest, Promo Disney Lorcana cards are the ultimate cards to target. Promo cards hold their value exceedingly well, with almost all promo cards valued at over $1,000.
After promo cards, the next set of Lorcana cards to target are enchanted cards. The average enchanted card has a value above $200, with some selling for as high as $700.
If enchanted Rise of the Floodborn cards do as well as enchanted cards from the first chapter, they’re great places to invest for ample ROI. Indeed, prices will likely hold their value even better as demand for the Lorcana TCG increases.
Final thoughts on Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn
The Lorcana TCG has all the markings of being a powerhouse in the trading card game industry. According to Lorcana co-designer and brand manager Ryan Miller, Lorcana was designed with both core TCG players and new players in mind.
“We designed the game to be easy to learn so that folks that haven’t played a TCG before should be able to pick it up, but also have enough strategic depth to attract the seasoned TCG player….”
This approach has been remarkably successful, as the game has attracted millions of casual players and investors. Several cards from the first chapter currently sell for impressive figures. Furthermore, Lorcana seems like it is here to stay.
With more sets being released, cards from the second chapter would be especially desired by collectors and players alike. I recommend grabbing a few packs, as the cards would be worth more a few weeks after their release.
