Soccer fans and card collectors go crazy over the cards of their favorite soccer players, be it Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, De Bruyne, Haaland, or any others. These are some of the most highly valued cards out there, and they can even fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, one card causes most card collectors to scratch their heads: England and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden. So, is investing in Phil Foden sports cards a good idea?
Phil Foden is a 21-year old footballer who started with a string of performances that earned him several accolades, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup Golden Ball and the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. This piece covers everything you need to know about Phil Foden, his performances, and why his cards have been the talk of the town.
Philip Walter Foden is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for the England National Team and Premier League side Manchester City. He rose to prominence in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2017, earning the Golden Boot for the competition. It also earned him a spot at City, where he has appeared in more than 100 matches since his signing in 2016.
Phil has the potential to become an incredible player. His coaches, Pep Guardiola and England coach, Gareth Southgate, consider him the complete package.

As you can already see, Phil Foden is considered a force to reckoned with. He specializes in navigating his way out of tight spaces when he controls the ball. This skill is instrumental in creating goal-scoring chances for the attacking players.
Phil Foden has only 72 Premier League appearances, but 57 of those have resulted in victory for the club, and they have lost only 9 matches in which he has played. Plus, he has scored 16 goals and has created 9 big chances. Add to that the fact that he doesn’t have a single red or yellow card to his name, and you have gotten yourself an excellent all-around player.
However, the midfielder has often come off the bench for Manchester City. Guardiola believes this allows the team to shift momentum when necessary. But is it also an indication that he lacks the quality to retain a starting place in a top-level club?
We have spoken volumes about Phil Foden’s performances and skills already, so it is clear how his career will pan out in the foreseeable future. Since the England midfielder is only 21 years old, we can safely assume that he will continue to provide world-class performances well into the next decade.
However, most Foden fans’ reservation is that the starlet spends most of his time on the bench for Manchester City. The same is true for his England status, as he played a more minor role in Euro 2020 than expected. Therefore, card collectors are often surprised how Phil Foden soccer cards continue to be so highly priced.
Foden is a wonderful young player. But he is by no means alone in that category in the Premier League. So how do his cards compare with other highly-rated players in his age group?
We compare “rated rookie” PSA 10s or EPL Prizms, depending on what was available.
Mason Greenwood | $190 |
Kai Havertz | $52 |
Mason Mount | $249 |
Marcus Rashford | $43 |
Phil Foden | $152 |
The prices do not seem to reflect the achievements of the players fairly. Only Mount and Havertz have become fully-fledged starting stars, though Greenwood is on the way. In particular, Havertz has played a vital role for Germany in Euro 2020 and scored the winning in the Champions League final. A comparison shows that Foden cards are overrated considering his current achievements.
Kai Havertz is more accomplished than Foden, at least for now (get Havertz RC’s on eBay).
Relating to the previous section, Phil Foden has yet to make his mark in the football circuit, but his soccer cards are already valued pretty high. One of the primary reasons for this is that Phil Foden is part of one of the top football clubs in the world, Manchester City.
Manchester City has yet to win the UEFA Champions League. However, it has several achievements to its name, including five Premier League titles in the last decade.
His performances have earned him a spot in several top soccer card sets, such as the 2021 Mosaic UEFA Soccer Card Set, 2020-21 Topps Inception UEFA CL2, 2020 Obsidian Soccer, 2020 Immaculate Soccer, 20-21 Stadium CC UEFA Soccer, amongst others. To get a PSA 10 card from the top collections that feature Phil Foden, you can expect to pay anywhere between $500 and $1000, and some of the premium collection cards can even go up to $2000.

Phil Foden’s cards are highly valued currently. However, we believe his future performances will cause his card value to rise significantly.
If Foden cements a central starting role for England and Manchester City in the next two to three seasons, the price of his cards could rise exponentially. At this point, that seems far more likely than Foden remaining a bench player. After all, the gifted player is only 21 years old and is about 6 years away from his prime.
