The hobby exists for these moments: when a young player breaks out and seems absolutely unstoppable.
Jayden Daniels has had one of the best rookie seasons and now looks like a boss in the playoffs. But as we know, the hype machine nowadays is entirely out of control.
Once a player breaks out in a big way, their value gets pumped, and the prices are out of control; in the case of Jayden Daniels, that has reached an incredible level. But we can’t just write off his cards as overhyped garbage.

This isn’t Zach Wilson we are talking about. Daniels already has a proven record over a season of excellence, and he also seems to have what it takes in the postseason.
So, what is the verdict on the Jayden Daniels cards hysteria? Is he worth investing in at this price range, or should we forget about his cards, as the value is already too high? We have answers.
Already back in November, an article in the Athletic lauded the popularity of Jayden Daniels cards.
They wrote, “It might feel like a Hail Mary if you haul in a Jayden Daniels card at this point. He’s easily one of the biggest names across the hobby in all sports currently. In October, Daniels was the most searched quarterback globally in eBay’s collectibles category.
The Commander’s victory over the Lions blew the lid off the edifice. When he has a Topps Now card coming out for the Playoffs, it warrants its own story in Sports Illustrated. On the day of the Lions game, over 7,000 of his cards were sold on eBay.

Considering he is a rookie who doesn’t even have that many items yet, that is a sensational number. The following day, another 7,000 were sold.
There is no satiating the hunger collectors have for his cards. Even on his weakest days this January, over 1,000 Jayden Daniels cards have been sold on eBay alone. What if he makes the Super Bowl and becomes the first rookie ever to do so? The sky is the limit.
His cards’ grading rate has been slower so far. This week, 1,529 of them have been received for grading, a bit down from 1,877 the week before.
But of course, that is partially because there aren’t that many worthwhile cards of Daniels out there compared to some of the other grading heavyweights like Shohei Ohtani and Michael Jordan (both of whom Daniels is beating in the last two weeks).

Many are wondering if the time to buy Jayden Daniels is past. Some cases are just plain ridiculous. A few days ago, a PSA 10 Prizm base card sold for $2,475.
That kind of thing happens when there is complete hysteria around a player. You may remember that back in 2021, someone bought a. Another collector received similar criticism in 2021 after paying $3,000 for a 2021 Donruss Mac Jones Base PSA 10 rookie card.
The Mac Jones card is now worth about $10. If the Daniels card owner is lucky, that one will be worth about $40 soon. It is very likely to have a population of over 10,000, so it does not stand a chance.
But if you are reading this, you probably know you should not invest in base cards. But what about more rare cards? These will have very high value if Jayden continues to blossom.

The data presents an interesting and mixed picture. Here are the relative prices of some of his cards.
Card | Current Value | Change in Value Over the Last Three Months |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Prizm #2 Emergent – Silver Rookie (Raw) | $37 | -24% |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Prizm Draft Picks #108 Blue /199 Rookie (Raw) | $105 | +85% |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Elite #16 Rookie on Deck (PSA 10) | $187 | +120% |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Absolute #7 Kaboom! (Horizontal) Rookie (PSA 10) | $5,750 | +17% |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Donruss #16 Downtown /(SSP) Rookie (PSA 10) | $3,799 | +32% |
Jayden Daniels 2024 Mosaic #302 Reactive Yellow Rookie (Raw) | $94 | +49% |
The Silver Prizm has decreased in value, which might reflect the softening market for more common cards. Silver is not a base card and has always enjoyed a better status in the hobby.
But it’s too common for many collectors’ tastes and has decreased in value. All of his more desirable cards (and many more common ones) have also enjoyed a significant rise in value.

What about RPAs and autos? Let’s look at their selling prices. We will not compare them to other sales since there are usually too few to make accurate comparisons.
JAYDEN DANIELS RC 2024 TOPPS NOW D2 -F #2/5 ORANGE SIGNED AUTOGRAPH ROOKIE AUTO (Raw) | $19,900 |
2024 Leaf Metal Jayden Daniels Gold Vinyl SuperFractor Auto 1/1 PSA (10 / 10) | $9,999 |
2024 Topps Now JAYDEN DANIELS Rookie Auto Autograph Cleat Relic Red /10 (Redemption) | $9,999 |
2024 Topps Now Jayden Daniels Rookie #16 5 TD Game Commanders Orange Auto /5 | $8,999 |
Jayden Daniels 2024 TOPPS NOW Football Draft Card D2D Auto Purple 6/25 RC PSA 10 | $7,999 |
2024 Topps Jayden Daniels #11 RPA Auto Cleat Redemption /25 Hail Mary Game | $5,000 |
There are some fantastic numbers here. The $10,000 price tag for a Metal Leaf card and a redemption are particularly impressive.
How does this compare to the most prominent quarterbacks on the market with the most proven record? Here are the most recent sales for Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes autos.
2000 Playoff Contenders Rookie Ticket #144 Tom Brady RC Signed AUTO PSA 8 | $28,850 |
TOM BRADY PSA AUTHENTIC 2000 PLAYOFF CONTENDERS 144 (PSA Auto 10) | $20,000 |
2017 Panini Flawless Tom Brady Greats Auto Ruby /5 PSA 10 Auto 10 | $15,300 |
2017 Panini Contenders Optic Patrick Mahomes Red Prizm (PSA 10) | $50,000 |
2017 Panini Flawless Patrick Mahomes Sapphire AUTO #132 Rookie /15 (PSA 10) | $34,999 |
The first thing that jumps out at me is how much more the Mahomes cards are going for. Brady is, by any measure, still the more excellent quarterback.
We will leave the debate of whether Mahomes can or will pass Brady since it is way outside the scope of this article. But it shows how we value potential more than achievement in our sports card buying decisions.
Despite having only a fraction of his achievements, Jayden Daniels cards are not worth much less than Tom Brady’s, on average about 30% less.
Meanwhile, Mahomes cards are worth about twice as much. But the odds that Daniels will reach those heights are very small. Don’t get me wrong; he has a good chance of having an excellent career and even making it to the Hall of Fame. But reaching the echelons of the absolute GOATs seems unlikely.

Even when looking at legends, if they are not among the 1 or 2 best-known names, they tend to go for far less than Jayden Daniels’s cards. Here are the top recent sales of autos for the next tier of recent great quarterbacks.
1998 Playoff Contenders Peyton Manning Rookie /200 (BGS 8.5 Auto 10) | $17,950 |
2012 National Treasures Russell Wilson Rookie Logo Patch Auto Gold /49 (PSA 8) | $7,500 |
2017 Panini Contenders – Veteran Ticket #391 Drew Brees (AU) 1/1 (BGS 8.5 Auto 10) | $5,000 |
Aaron Rodgers Rookie Auto- 2005 Topps Chrome Gold Xfractor #’d/399 (PSA 10) | $5,400 |
2004 LEAF LIMITED BEN ROETHLISBERGER GOLD PRIZM REFRACTOR RPA RC AUTO PATCH 2/10 (Raw) | $3,999 |
BRETT FAVRE 2014 Panini Flawless Platinum Greats Game Worn Patch Auto 1/1 (PSA 9) | $3,550 |
It appears that Peyton Manning is well remembered and loved by the hobby and is still commanding massive amounts of money for their autos.
His autos are generally going for a bit less than Jayden Daniels. Incredible when you consider his career and the fact that Peyton remains a significant celebrity. Meanwhile, other legends like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are going for far less than Daniels.
Make no mistake. Jayden’s chances of having a career as accomplished as those guys are not that big. That is probably his ceiling.
You have to ask yourself why the Daniels cards are worth more than players who have accomplished much more in their careers. The answer is that we are paying for the excitement surrounding a great career’s potential.
There has always been an element of that in the hobby. However, the hype that is created through social media has significantly exacerbated it.
Indeed, it has become quite difficult to make money in the long term on these quarterbacks. Most of the players worth investing in are, paradoxically, too expensive.
By the time Jayden’s first Prizm cards arrived on December 18, 2024, it was already apparent that he was having a fantastic season, and the excitement around him was high.
Sure, it has gotten even higher since. But there was no time to get him cheap. However, those who bought early and sell now will make a lot of money. Meanwhile, those holding on to him in the long-term will likely lose a good deal of cash.
That is all intentional. The pump-and-dump cycle is real and intentional, and many influencers responsible for it make a good deal of money by selling high and buying low. It is almost like inside trading; only this is legal.
Don’t get me wrong. Some people are very interested in collecting Jayden Daniels for the long term. Commanders fans, in particular, are ecstatic at having a guy like him to collect. I understand. As a Giants fan, if we, by some miracle, got a player like Jayden, I would want to have his cards, too.

We saw that excitement when Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit and husband of Serena Williams put a $200,000 bounty on the $Black Finite 1/1 Jayden Daniels card as we wrote about in our publication previously.
In an Instagram video, he said, “My name is Alexis Ohanian, and I have a $200,000 proposition for you. You see, I’ve been a diehard Commanders fan since I was a little kid, and I am so excited this year with our franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels just taking care of business. This is the release of the 2024 Panini Prizm Football cards, and I want to ensure I get my hands on the best Jayden Daniels card. So this is a $200,000 bounty.”
I have no doubt that Ohanian is posting this as a genuine fan and collector and not to flip the card. However, it seems unlikely that a Jayden Daniels 1/1 will go for anything close to $200,000 in a few years.
So much of the high current prices are a question of FOMO. But that is an illusion. The prices are likely as high now as they will get. As new players enter the hobby and the hype around Daniels dies, the prices will decrease.
You have not missed out. Even if his career continues significantly, in a year or two, expect prices to be far lower.
If you are looking for cards to invest in now, look to players you believe in who are no longer in the spotlight. CJ Stroud, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Brock Purdy are good examples. There is a good chance Jayden Daniels will be there in a year or two.

We have seen it happen over and over. When the next season starts, Jayden’s cards will lose value dramatically. By then, you will have better prices. But I also need more data to determine whether he is the real thing or another overhyped name.
What if you want to buy and sell now? You could be risking things if you send cards to grade. When you get them back, the value may have gone down significantly. Therefore, that doesn’t seem like a good play either.
But if you have some Daniels cards ready to go, sell them now. They may never be higher. The odds are with you. That applies to graded cards. But you also have doubts about raw cards. It could be better to sell them raw now rather than try to eliminate PSA 8 and 9s after the quarterbacks market has cooled.
There is no question that Jayden Daniels is special. He is one of the most promising rookie quarterbacks we have ever seen.
But he is not going to avoid the hobby laws of gravity. He is at his highest right now, and you never buy when a player is at that point. The good news is that no matter what he does, the prices will go down next year (unless he wins a Super Bowl).
When interest is low, pick up his cards when more data is available. Otherwise, you could end up with costly cards from a bust. Don’t let FOMO get you.
