September has the first football cards for the 2024 season and perhaps the most exciting annual baseball release.
As always, here are the CardLines picks for cards to watch in September 2024. And, also as always, a feature on this list doesn’t mean it’s a must-buy. We’re sharing honest thoughts on all products.
Please note: the release schedules are very fluid and move frequently. These dates are not guaranteed (and with so many releases tentatively scheduled for September, it’s a safe bet many of these will not release this month).
The 2024 Score Football release is a collector favorite for those who like to unwrap a lot of cards without paying a premium. Each $250 box comes with 10 packs of 40 cards each (yes, you read that right), 4 autographs – and perhaps one of limited chances to hit an autograph of Fanatics recent rookie autograph signings. This is scheduled to be the First Officially Licensed NFL product of 2024.
That does not mean the players will be in their NFL jerseys on all the cards – just the team names and logos will appear on the card. The Double Trouble autographs are returning this year for dual autographs featuring rookies, veterans, and players in the hall of fame.

Spectra is a confounding product. It’s high-end and opti-chrome, but not nearly as popular as Select, Optic, or Prizm. Perhaps it’s because it’s limited print and no retail offerings: each hobby box only has 4 packs of 4 cards.
Each $999 box pack contains 4 Autographs, 4 parallels and 2 memorabilia cards from the unique checklist: Celestial (#’d/99), Supernova (#’d/75), Interstellar (#’d/49), Astral (#’d/35), Meta (#’d/25), Gold (#’d/10), Marble (#’d/5) and the One-of-One Nebula Logoman.
This product also has a variety of SSP Inserts in the popular Color Blast set, and a new SP insert called Full Capacity. It has high-end potential, but collectors refuse to get excited about Spectra like they do for similar products.

Pro-Debut is baseball is a very low-cost, autograph-heavy product for collectors who want a chance to get their hands on an autograph of some of the future stars in the MLB. This product also features the minor league team names and logos, so if you ever wanted a Rocket City Trash Pandas collectible, this is for you.
The hobby box costs $89 ( up from $68 last year) and includes 4 autographs and the HTA jumbo box costs $119 and has 6 packs of 24 cards and has three autographs (at least, according to pre-release notes, but if you’re thinking that feels backward, so do we).
Either way, the minor league product has a few cards that could carry some major league value eventually.

Bowman Chrome is one of the most exciting annual baseball releases. It perhaps has the highest ceiling of potential for any baseball product – or the best return on investment potential.
Rookies on the checklist include Jackson Holliday, Jackson Merrill, Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Junior Caminero, Wyatt Langford, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and more. Prospects include Dylan Crews, Walker Jenkins, Max Clark, and more.
Hobby boxes are selling at $289 and include 12 packs of 5 cards, with 2 autos, and 1 shimmer parallels. HTA boxes are selling for $299 and include 3 autographs (three cards total, all of which are signed). There are HTA-exclusive autograph parallels, too.

Gold Standard is probably the best 2024 football product released in September, but that’s a pretty low bar to clear. The best thing about Gold Standard, at least in the past, is that it’s the first product to feature rookies in their NFL uniforms, so if that’s once again the case, it’s a product that could hold more long-term value.
And, even more particularly for this year, some of these signers will no longer be signing with Panini shortly after this release.
The boxes are pre-ordering for $500 and each box has 7 cards: 5 autos or memorabilia and 2 base/parallels. It’s a nice number of hits, but also the most expensive, risky 2022 football product slated to release through September.
As Panini notes, “2024 Gold Standard Football lives up to its name by delivering one of the most brilliant base sets of the season that includes 100 veterans, 100 Rookie Cards, 42 Rookie Jersey Autographs and 42 Rookie Jersey Autographs Jumbo — all featuring a spectacular parallel lineup.”

Impeccable is a one-pack, 9-card box that contains 5 autographs, 3 base or parallels, and 1 silver insert, gold insert, or stainless stars non-auto. The Stainless stars are some of my personal favorite card designs every year.
While they’re not as much of a chase as some opti-chrome cards, they’re eye-catching. Unfortunately, 2023-24 Impeccable Basketball doesn’t have a price yet, so monitor it as it gets closer to release. Previous years cost about $3,000, so tread lightly.
The big new addition for this year is the Elegance Rookie Logoman Autographs. This brand-new autograph insert features a logoman from a specific game.

Luminance, visually, is about as opposite Obsidian as you can get. It’s another set that plays on the idea of light, but it shades brighter and more minimalist. Its logo also looks a lot like the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows symbol, so don’t let it put a spell on you.
The boxes are pre-ordering for $325 and each box has 4 packs of 10 cards. From that, you can expect to find 3 autographs, 1 memorabilia card, 5 parallels, 4 inserts, and 12 rookies. This is the 2022 class so the rookies are not nearly as strong as the previous two seasons (I could eat those words but we’ll see).
We haven’t gotten previews of the cards yet, but in the past, the rookies have been in their college jerseys, and that brings down the value in the long run. If that’s the case once again, we’d recommend this product as a stay-away.

National Treasures is typically a late-season release, so a mid-summer drop for the popular high-end product isn’t too out of the ordinary (it takes a very long time to make 8-card boxes, of course). Each box is estimated to preorder for about $3,500 and contains 8 autographs or memorabilia cards, 1 base/insert, and 1 parallel.
It’s a big dice roll, but the 2020 box sells for about $9,000, so do with that as you will.
Panini describes new additions as follows: “National Treasures’ bountiful booklet arsenal is second to none and includes bona fide heavy hitters such as Treasured Dual Cuts, the new Elevated Ink, Rookie Triple Booklet and so many more. The stunning Super Bowl Immortality and Gladiators inserts feature an autograph parallel for some players. As for the NFL Shields insert? It needs no introduction.”

The 2023/24 Panini Impeccable Soccer Hobby Box offers a high-end collecting experience with some of the most upscale designs and elements in the card world.
Each $1,200 box contains one pack with eight cards, including four autographs, one additional autograph or memorabilia card, one insert, one parallel, and one base card.
Collectors can find features like the metal Stainless Stars and cards incorporating authentic gold and silver.
The set includes indelible ink from some of the Premier League’s hottest stars and greatest legends in inserts such as Canvas Creations,
Impeccable Club History Autographs, and Immortal Ink. With a star-studded checklist that magnificently melds autographs and memorabilia, this collection is perfect for serious soccer card enthusiasts.
