5 Essential Junior Caminero Baseball Cards You Can Find Right Now

Baseball fans have long been interested in identifying the next big thing. There is a sense of adventure and the potential for great profit if you can pick the best young players before others catch on.

One young player who just might be the next big deal is Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays. But who is Caminero? What are the best Junior Caminero baseball cards? And are they a good buy?

Who is Junior Caminero?

Junior Caminero is a 20-year-old infielder on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays top prospect, he made his big league debut late in 2023, getting into 7 games. Considering his tender age and the fact that he started the season in High A and hit a combined .324/.384/.591 with 31 home runs in the minors, it’s no surprise he’s ranked by MLB as the #6 prospect in the sport.

Originally signed in July of 2019 by the Cleveland Indians, Caminero was traded to the Rays after the 2021 season. At every level, he’s shown impressive ability to hit, despite being one of the youngest players in the league at each stop. (4.6 years younger than the average in AA, for example).

With his meteoric rise through the minors to the cup of coffee in the big leagues in 2023, we can expect Caminero to play a significant role in the Rays’ plans for 2024, and potentially for years to come. While it is very early in his career, the success at a young age bodes well for Caminero’s potential for long-term success.

Junior Caminero Baseball Cards

Junior Caminero has appeared on 487 trading cards to date, according to the Trading Card Database (TCDB.com).

With Caminero getting his first taste of the big leagues late in 2023, his official rookie cards will arrive in 2024. So, there are already a lot of Caminero cards to chase, with more on the way.

The Top 5 Junior Caminero Baseball Cards

But what are the best Junior Caminero cards to start your collection, while you wait for his rookie cards to drop?

We’ll throw out five of our favorites. Just a note that we’re sticking to base cards. Being ultra-modern cards, know that these have a rainbow of parallels available for a tougher chase and higher price point.

5. 2023 Topps Pro Debut Junior Caminero #PD-139

The 2023 Topps Pro Debut is a low-cost, fun little break that gets a bit overlooked by collectors. The fact that only two copies of this card have been graded by PSA confirms the “overlooked” nature of the card.

So, you’re unlikely to find one on eBay graded. Is it worth grading a raw copy? Perhaps on an inexpensive grading special, if for no other reason to get ahead of the rush if Caminero’s career catches fire.

The Chrome version of this card has only been graded once and offers another potential low-cost Caminero to get in on early.

4. 2023 Bowman Prospects Junior Caminero #BP-61

The 2023 Bowman Prospects Paper Junior Caminero has been graded just over 300 times by PSA, with about 2/3 of the population in PSA 10 slabs. While perhaps the most exciting investment, you can do worse considering recent comps are only in the $15-20 range.

3. 2023 Bowman Chrome Mega Box Junior Caminero #BP-61

The 2023 Topps Chrome Mega Box is a good card for the middle of our list. It’s a semi-premium offering but has one of the higher PSA populations on our list, which keeps prices in check. Even in a PSA 10 slab, these can be had for $35-60 each.

2. 2023 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Edition Prospects Junior Caminero #BCP-61

With a total PSA population approaching 500 and lots of chromium and sapphire sparkle, the 2023 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Edition card is the most expensive on our list. In a PSA 10 slab, these have been selling solidly for $100 to $115.

1.  2023 Bowman Chrome Prospects Junior Caminero #BCP-61

The Chrome version of a player’s First Bowman Card (FBC) is often one of the most sought-after early career cards of any player, and Junior Caminero’s 2023 Bowman Chrome card is no different.

Still available for a reasonable $40-50 in a PSA 10 slab, this card will sure be worth a lot more if Caminero lives up to the hype.

In addition to the above, Caminero appears in several cards from Donruss, Onyx, Panini, and Topps Now. There is no shortage of options, offering collectors an opportunity to add a Caminero card (or more than one) to fit any budget and taste.

Are Junior Caminero baseball cards a good investment?

So, Junior Caminero is an exciting young player on the cusp of the big leagues. But are his cards a good investment? I wish I had a definitive answer for you, but as you well know, prospects are tough.

Some become icons, like a Ken Griffey Jr. or Joe Mauer. Others flame out and break your heart.

What I can say is this – while Caminero is highly rated as a prospect, and appears major-league-ready at only 20 years old, his cards aren’t super expensive at this point. If you think Caminero is the real deal, there’s still time to buy in before the season starts and others catch on.
