22 year old outfielder Wyatt Langford was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the 4th overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft. Langford signed for an $8 million signing bonus after an impressive college career at the University of Florida.
From the draft, Langford rocketed through the Rangers system. He collected 200 plate appearances across 44 games, playing games in Rookie ball, A+, AA, and AAA. That meteoric rise through the minors didn’t slow Langford’s bat one bit. He hit .360/.480/.677, good for an OPS of 1.157, across his minor league sampler platter. He added 10 home runs and stole 12 bases to boot.
Going into the 2024 season, Wyatt Langford was one of the top-rated prospects in the league, ranked #6 by MLB.com, #5 by Baseball America, and #2 by Baseball Prospectus. On the 20-80 grading scale, Langford is projected to have several plus tools, especially his power.

The premium Sapphire Edition version of the Bowman Draft card has a much lower total PSA population than the other unsigned cards on the list. Just a hair over 50% of those cards graded by PSA are in PSA 10 slabs.
In that condition, these have sold well in the $225-300 range of late.
The autographed version of the 2023 Bowman Chrome Wyatt Langford card has been graded a healthy 734 times, with 405 PSA 10s.
That means that it’s been graded enough to be attainable, but not so much as to be common. In a PSA 10 slab, recent sales have been in the area of $560-735.

Wyatt Langford is an exciting young player who’s reached the big leagues in an almost absurdly short period of time. But are his cards a good investment?
That is a tough one for sure. Prospects, even highly touted ones, have inherit risk involved in their development. Some will go on to be icons. Some will have long, successful careers, but won’t be superstars. Some will be busts.
Wyatt Langford is highly touted, and his fast rise to the big leagues is a very good sign. While his defense is considered at least solid in left field, he’s started his career as a DH. Playing a less premium position, or being a designated hitter, makes it a bit tougher to rack up high WAR totals.
That’s why there are only a handful of players in the Hall of Fame who played the bulk of their career at DH.
That being said, as a very good young player on a very good team that also has other very good young players (such as Evan Carter). If you feel like he has the chance of being a great player for a long period of time, his unsigned cards haven’t yet really taken off, price-wise.
For Langford and other ultra-modern prospects, it’s important to keep an eye on population reports and invest in those areas where the counts are lower.
