The Best Sports Card Auctions Of July 2024

The weather heats up come July, and so does the sports card auction action. While the number of auctions this month isn’t quite on par with the busy month of June, there’s still plenty of activity that’s well worth a look.

Sirius Sports Cards July 11 Auction #369

After running two auctions in June, Sirius is back again with another auction in July, which wraps up on July 11th. Auction #369 features over 600 items that range from all sports from pre-war to the 1980’s, although post-war baseball is especially well represented.

Items of Note

As mentioned above, post-war baseball is among the highlights here. This includes a 1953 Topps Willie Mays in a PSA 6 slab that’s a hobby classic. The late Billy Martin appears on a 1954 Topps card in PSA 8 and a 1957 Topps in PSA 8.5. There are 1953 Topps cards in PSA 7 of Bob Feller, Monte Irvin, Enos Slaughter, and more.

In addition, there are graded, autographed rookie cards of Hall of Famers Rod Carew, Nolan Ryan, Johnny Bench, Mike Schmidt, Rickey Henderson, and more.

Heritage Auctions Summer Sports Card Auction

Heritage Auctions brings us their Summer Sports Card Auction, which wraps up on July 12th and 13th. With over 2,000 items, this is a large auction with lots to see. While all sports and eras are represented, pre-war baseball is the headliner here, with lots of old cardboard available.

Items of Note

This auction has so many amazing pre-war sets represented. The classic 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter is always a favorite. Other examples include 1887-90 N172 Old Judge, 1909-11 T206, 1910-11 T3 Turkey Red, and various Sporting Life sets, just to name a few.

Impressive specimens of hobby classic cards and sets are all over this auction. This includes such classics as a 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan in PSA 10, a 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson in SGC 9, a 1921 E121 American Caramel Babe Ruth in SGC 5, a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron in PSA 8, and a 1957 Topps Johnny Unitas is PSA 8.5 just to name a few.  

There’s a PSA-graded 1952 Topps near complete set, as well as PSA-graded near complete sets of 1957 Topps and T206. The 1970 Topps Baseball sealed wax box and the 1988 Fleer Basketball wax case are sure to contain treasures.

Goldin Auctions, the stars of the Kings of Collectibles, brings us the 2024 King of Collectibles Auction, featuring several lots seen on the show.

The auction also contains items from the personal collections of all-time greats Barry Bonds and Reggie Jackson, plus a lot of other interesting items. The auction wraps on July 13th.

Items of Note

As the title suggests, this auction features items from the personal collections of both home run king Barry Bonds and Mr. October Reggie Jackson. These of course include items from those player’s careers, but also items they owned, like Jackson’s 1953 game-used Jackie Robinson bat and his 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Convertible.

Non-sports make up a large percentage of the auction beyond the two superstar collections. These include a 2017 Fleer Ultra Spider-Man Marvel Precious Metal Gems complete set, a rare 1998 Pokemon Japanese Promo Holofoil Illustrator Pikachu in PSA 7, and a Circa 1990 Original Bob Ross 18 x 24 Oil Painting, just to name a few.  

This auction doesn’t have many cards in it, but has plenty of memorabilia, including game-used. Plus comics and video games, and more.

Items of Note

Many of the biggest cards are graded vintage rookie cards with autographs. These include a 1963 Topps Pete Rose rookie card graded by PSA as PSA 5 / Auto 10 and a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan graded PSA 6 / Auto 10. Other graded and signed rookie cards include Steve Carlton, Ozzie Smith, and a number of Ken Griffey Jr. rookie autos, including Donruss, Score, Fleer, and Bowman. Football gets in on the signed and graded auto fun with a Barry Sanders.

In addition to the graded vintage rookie autographs, you’ll find plenty of unsigned cards, including a smattering of Basketball, Football, Hockey, and Non-Sports.
