The base set of 2023 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary contains 500 cards. The design is an interesting blend of past and present, with the classic vintage 1954 Topps design in the spotlight.
The design features a large player portrait with a smaller, black-and-white “action” shot of the player. While Chrome Platinum isn’t a Heritage branded product, it has been following the Topps designs of the past, and this being its third year, 1954 Topps gets the spotlight.
The entire retro feel gets a blast of the present, with a chromium finish and Retrofractor parallels.
Speaking of past and present, the checklist consists of a mix of current major league veterans, 2023 rookies, and stars from the past.

2023 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary is a newer product that brings both retro and ultra-modern vibes. But is this a good product to buy-and-hold unopened with the hope of profiting?
Let’s look at recent comps for hobby boxes from the last few years to see what they can tell us.

Year | Recent Comp Price |
2023 | $125-140 |
2022 | $130-185 |
2021 | $70-100 |
Between the short life of the product and the fact that prices are a bit all over the place, it’s tough to call these a good product to buy and hold. If you believe in the product, go for it, but there’s not a lot of info to go on here.
In terms of singles, what is the potential gain here? Let’s look at what 2022 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary can tell us.
The high water mark was a 1/1 Superfractor Autograph of Bryce Harper, which sold for $2,500 in a PSA 9 slab. A 1/1 Superfactor of Bo Jackson sold for around $1,200. A raw Pink Autograph of Shohei Ohtani sold for $930 and a PSA 10 1/1 Superfractor of Carl Yastrzemski sold for $900.
So, there certainly appears to be some opportunity for value here, with the 1/1 Superfractors and rarer autograph parallels offering some real value.
With many cards selling for between $200 and $800, the opportunity to get good ROI on a box appears to be here, although is far from guaranteed.
All products have pros and cons that need to be considered before spending your hard-earned hobby budget on them. 2023 Topps Chrome Platinum Anniversary is no different, but what are some of the things to keep in mind when making your decision?

There appears to be some potential for ROI here, with a reasonable buy-in price. You’re unlikely to get an earth-shaking hit, but these feel like nice cards.
