With just a few remaining regular 2024 NASCAR season, NASCAR collectors are getting set for 2024 Panini Select Racing. So far, this season has been exhilarating with top drivers battling it out on the track.
Amidst that excitement, collectors eagerly await the Panini Select’s first release since 2017, currently set to drop on August 16th, 2024.
Great Chromium design, various parallels, and lots of colors have earned Select a top spot on the list of most popular Panini brands. However, there’s been no Select Racing set since the 2017 Panini Select Racing set.
The 2024 Panini Select Racing set promises to deliver the ultimate racing experience with its Optichrome design, rare inserts, and autographs from the biggest riders on the track.

The history of the Panini Select Racing trading card set dates back to 1994, when its first racing set was released – the 1994 Pinnacle Select Racing. At that time, Panini was still known as Pinnacle Brands.
The initial Select racing set was a 150-card set, packaged 8 cards a pack and 24 packs into a box. 2,950 numbered cases were produced in the 1994 Pinnacle Select racing set.
The Select Racing brand was dormant through Playoff Inc. acquiring Pinnacle and its eventual acquisition by Panini in 2009. In 2016, Panini and NASCAR announced a new partnership. Blake Davidson was then vice president of licensing and consumer products at NASCAR;
“We’re thrilled to be aligned with Panini, which will provide a fresh approach and reenergize this category. Partnering with a leader in the space was an important strategy for NASCAR, producing top-quality product for NASCAR fans, kids and collectors alike.”
Panini revived the Select Racing brand with a new racing set in 2017. The 2017 Panini Select Racing collection featured all the hallmark of a Select set. It’s renowned for its Chromium design, autographs, and memorabilia cards.
However, after the 2017 Panini Select Racing, the Select Racing brand took another hiatus. Select cards appeared as inserts in a few racing products but never as a standalone set.
This hiatus is ending with the announcement of the 2024 Panini Select Racing, much to the delight of racing collectors. The Select brand has maintained a loyal following over the years, which speaks to its enduring appeal and rich history.
2024 Panini Select Racing
The 2024 Panini Select Racing trading card set marks a triumphant return for the iconic Select brand to NASCAR racing. It highlights NASCAR’s biggest stars as well as legends from the past.
Racecard collectors are especially thrilled to see the revival of this brand, as the Select brand holds a special place in the hearts of collectors. With its sleek designs, vibrant colours, and exclusive content, this set is set to be memorable.
While Panini has several NASCAR sets lined up for the year, the 2024 Panini Select Racing set is one of the year’s most anticipated Panini NASCAR releases.
The release date of the 2024 Panini Select Racing is scheduled for August 16, 2024, sandwiched between the FireKeepers Casino 400 and the Cook Out 400 races.
We only have information for the hobby format for the 2024 Panini Select Racing set. However, we’ll likely have just hobby boxes for the 2024 Panini Select Racing, as the 2017 Panini Select Racing had just hobby boxes, too.
However, we will keep an eye out for information on other formats and update this post accordingly if/when there’s additional information.
We do not yet know how many cards are in the base set of the 2024 Panini Select Racing. However, the last Select Racing release had a small base set of 140 cards, so we expect something around that number if Panini follows the same format with this product.
Such a small set size isn’t a surprise as there are fewer NASCAR stars to highlight, especially compared to other sports like Football, Basketball and Soccer.
While we do not know how many cards make up the 2024 Panini Select Racing base set, we do know that the base set will be broken down into three tiers. There are a variety of inserts in the 2024 Panini Select Racing. There’s a mix of Select favorites and some NASCAR racing original inserts. As usual, the 2024 Panini Select NASCAR Racing inserts focus more on NASCAR’s top drivers.

The 2024 Panini Select Racing trading card set has an exciting lineup of autograph cards featuring current drivers, legendary racers, and future stars of the race track. The set boasts several unique autographs and memorabilia that offer collectors a chance to own an actual piece of racing history.

We don’t know all the parallels that’ll be included in the 2024 Panini Select Racing set. We know that Prizms parallels, Tie-Dye, Gold and Black are available only in hobby packs, and Zebra Prizms is set to make its NASCAR debut.

The 2024 Panini Select Racing has a lot going for it. It marks the return of the Select brand to NASCAR racing after a seven-year break. This alone has generated significant excitement amongst collectors looking to lay their hands on another Select Racing set.
The Select brand is known for its vibrant colours, distinct designs and premium cardstock.
Another good thing is the fact that hobby boxes are pre-selling for $150, a far cry from other Select hobby boxes of other popular sports. With a low entry point of just $150 per hobby box and 12 packs per box, it’s a fun and inexpensive way to rip open some packs and build your collection.
Hobby boxes of the 2023-24 Panini Select Serie A, which isn’t very popular amongst collectors, presold for $299. At $150 per hobby box, the 2024 Panini Select Racing makes it easy to get in on the action. With two autographs and one memorabilia guaranteed in each hobby box, you’re sure of pulling excellent cards in every box.
The market for NASCAR trading cards has not taken off as expected, especially compared to other sports. NASCAR is a niche sport domiciled in the USA, while most other sports have a worldwide appeal.
There’s a limited attraction for these cards beyond NASCAR fans, which places a ceiling on the secondary market value of these cards. They cost less than similar cards from other sports. However, while the demand and value of NASCAR trading cards are much lower compared to other sports, that could change soon.
NASCAR averages around 3.35 million viewers per race, up from 2.68 million in 2023. NASCAR’s popularity is growing, and their attention will turn to these trading cards sometime soon.
These low figures aren’t necessarily bad for collectors just looking to build a collection. The low demand ensures that the value of these cards isn’t overinflated, and collectors can simply enjoy the set for what it is: awesome designs, impressive autographs and an all-around fun rip.
Regarding the value of NASCAR cards, we have to curb our expectations because the return on investment on NASCAR cards isn’t anything impressive. Cards from premium Panini NASCAR brands like National Treasures and 1/1 of top racers can sell for up to $500.
However, National Treasure Racing has a high entry point, and only fortunate collectors get to pull a 1/1 card because there’s only so much of it. Clearly, the return on investment isn’t good when it comes to NASCAR cards.
The good news is that wax prices are steady around its release price year after year, so you won’t lose money. You might even make a few dollars worth of profit in future; however, it wouldn’t be anything of note.
For singles, we have just one Panini Select Racing set in over two decades to go on. However, the numbers from other NASCAR Racing brands aren’t impressive at all. The numbers are even worse than banking on hobby boxes, where you are at least guaranteed your box will hold its value.
However, this can all change if NASCAR’s popularity and appeal suddenly skyrocket in the next few years. So, while Select Racing’s comeback into the NASCAR trading card scene is excellent, and the 2024 Panini Select Racing has a lot of outstanding cards, there’s little value to be gained investing in this set.
If profit is your primary goal, invest in Panini Select sets from other sports or go big with a NASCAR National Treasures set.
Select makes its triumphant return to NASCAR with the 2024 Panini Select Racing set. Racing fans will appreciate this set as the Select brand is renowned for its high-quality Chromium cards, autographs and tons of color.
While the set may not yield significant profits, its low entry price of $150 makes it perfect to indulge in the joy of a fun rip and the thrill of collecting. For $150, collectors who are NASCAR fans can experience the excitement of ripping, chasing rare cards, and adding to their collection.
