The 2024 Rookies & Stars Football card set offers a 200-card base collection featuring established NFL stars and top rookies. 

Key highlights of the checklist include popular inserts like Crusade, Thrillers, and Stellar Rookies, as well as autograph and memorabilia options. The product provides a range of cards that appeal to both casual collectors and dedicated hobbyists.

Each box contains:

• 2 Autographs
• 2 Memorabilia Cards
• 5 Numbered Base or Rookie Cards
• 12 Inserts or Insert Parallels

What to expect from 2024 Rookies and Stars Football

Unlike previous years, Rookies and Stars is no longer a hobby-only release in 2024, and that might not be good news for the brand.

Presumably, having a retail set means that every card will eventually be floating around eBay, and that won’t bode well for long-term value.

A few red flags with Rookies and Stars Football 2024 

Like every 2024 Panini football product, there are a few caveats that come with 2024 Rookies and Stars. 

I will be saying this in every 2024 product review I wrote: many of the top 2024 draft picks are working exclusively with Fanatics on autographs. These players include Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, AD Mitchell, Malik Nabers, Brendan Rice, Brian Thomas Jr., Xavier Worthy, and Rome Odunze, to name a few. These athletes agreed to no more autos with Panini, but they could still have some in this set.

The redeeming aspect of Rookies and Stars is that the autographs aren’t the biggest value drivers, but rather the parallels.

So while there might not be autographs of Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, or Drake Maye, there’s almost certainly going to be low-numbered Mosaic parallels that could be worth hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. This alone makes 2024 Rookies and Stars the best release on the NFL calendar thus far.

2024 Rookies and Stars Football preview

One of the highlights of this release is the revival of the iconic Crusade insert, which comes in various versions, including Signature editions. Look for Silver, Pandora, White, Red, Pink, Blue, Purple, Orange, Gold, Green, and Black parallels, which are 1/1. 

For autograph collectors, notable inserts like Thrillers Signatures, Airborne Signatures, Stellar Rookies Signatures, Great American Signatures, and more.

Longtime fans of memorabilia inserts will be pleased to find the return of staples such as Dress for Success, Cross Training, and Standing Ovation, among others. These additions contribute to the rich history of Rookies & Stars, adding a nostalgic touch for seasoned collectors, and, remember, these memorabilia cards could include even the non-signing rookies.

With a 200-card base set that includes 100 rookies, this edition ensures a comprehensive representation of both seasoned players and emerging talents.

With that in mind, here’s the value of sealed R&S boxes for the last few years (as of 12/30/24):

• 2019: $255
• 2020: Was Not Released as Hobby
• 2021: $210
• 2022: $180
• 2023: $200
• 2024: 299

The numbers here speak pretty clear: 2024 is overpriced, especially considering that the 2024 box doesn’t have many noteworthy autographs from top rookies. 

So, at $299, the ceiling is pretty low on this box as an investment. No box from the past 4 seasons is worth more than that, or even close to that. I’d stay away from Rookies and Stars as a long-term investment at the release day price.

Investing in Rookie and Stars Football singles

Rookies and Stars rookie cards come in many different forms, but your best hope of finding one that holds nice long-term value is the popular Crusades insert. 

If I’m investing in a single from this set, I’d buy a colored Crusade from the player you believe in the most and get it graded eventually (not rush with PSA right now) or a numbered rookie autograph.

If you want something more high-end, a Dress for Success rookie autograph could also be a good long-term hold if there’s a player you’re chasing in this autograph set.

What you buy should depend on how much you believe in the quarterback and how much disposable income you’re ready to throw at them.

The bottom line of 2024 Rookies and Stars Football?

With 2024 Rookies and Stars Football, it’s not a good box to buy either to hold or rip. If you want to invest, single investing is about the only way to go, but there are still better options in different brands.

In the end, do what makes the most sense for you and your budget. This is a “hobby,” and while you can make a decent amount of profit off it, hobbies are also about having fun.
