2024 Topps Five Star value

2024 Topps Five Star is a decidedly high-end release with just two cards per pack, with them all being autographed. But are these a good candidate to buy and hold unopened?

Let’s see what recent comp prices for boxes from the last few years can tell us.

Shop for 2024 Topps Five Star Baseball boxes on eBay

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2024$340-$360
2023$205-$245
2022$160-$260
2021$165-$225

Based on the above, boxes appear not to be the best option to buy and hold unopened, at least in the fairly short-term of a few years. Prices appear to be roughly in the range of the release price, with some selling for a bit more and some a bit less. These feel like they were made to break.

What about in terms of singles? What can a look at recent sale prices for 2023 Topps Five Star tell us about the potential in 2024?

The high water mark is a 2023 Topps Five Star Gunnar Henderson Jumbo Logo Patch Auto 1/1, which sold for $6,700. Other sales of note include a Shohei Ohtani on card Auto Jumbo Patch /25, which sold for $2,600 and some other Ohtani variations including Jumbo Patch Gold Auto Shohei Ohtani /10 at $2,500 and Shohei Ohtani Auto Jumbo Patch Relic Green /15 sold for around $2,000.

A decent number of other cards have sold recently for over $1,000, with many more selling for $500 plus.

So, the potential for a bit hit, or at least making your money back. On the other hand, some 2023 Topps Five Star singles sold for as little as $1, which is tough when you’re talking about a box that will cost around $350 in 2024.

2024 Topps Five Star pros & cons

Every product has pros and cons when deciding whether to purchase and break them. What are some of the pros and cons of 2024 Topps Five Star?

Shop for 2024 Topps Five Star Baseball boxes on eBay

Pros

  • With two autographed cards per box, this is a decidedly high-end product that has the making of a quick and exciting break. The potential is there for some great hits with huge resale value.
  • The cards look nice and are produced on premium stock with on-card autographs in most cases. So, these do feel high-end and valuable.

Cons

  • With only two cards per box and a price tag around $350, a break can go sideways in a hurry if you pull less desirable names as one or both of your autographs. Your two cards could be worth thousands, or less than $10 total.
  • At $350, the buy-in for a box may give you pause, especially for only two cards. Would you be able to find better value buying an autographed card from a prior release of Topps Five Star? Or perhaps buying an almost 60-year-old rookie card of a Hall of Famer, like the 1965 Topps Joe Morgan in PSA 7?

Final thoughts on 2024 Topps Five Star

2024 Topps Five Star is a high-end product that brings all the autographs with no filler. While the potential for big hits are here, the rising price tag only increases the risk.
