2023 Topps Allen & Ginter X dropped on October 20, 2023.
Hobby boxes contain 18 packs per box. Each hobby pack contains 8 cards per pack. Collectors can expect one autograph per box.
Hobby boxes were available for $70 on Topps web site, where they quickly sold out. On the secondary market, they have been selling so far for around $115-120.
The 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter base set consists of 400 cards. The design matches the 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter release, except with X’s signature black design elements.
The checklist 1-400 also matches the flagship 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter set, although X doubles the number of short prints to 100 from the 50 the prior offering.
The overall product offering is much simpler than 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter. Beyond the base cards and short prints, you’ll find just a handful of mini parallels and autographs. The signature Allen & Ginter insert sets with oddball topics aren’t included here.
As in prior years, the checklist consists of a fun mix of current players and rookies, former stars, athletes from other sports, and other celebrities and public personalities.

Cards 300 to 400 are short prints and are seeded 1:2 packs. The checklist consists of former stars, including Hall of Famers and fan favorites.
The short prints provide a bit of an extra challenge for set builders and a little bonus value for the average pack breaker.

The only parallel available in 2023 Topps Allen and Ginter X are mini parallels, which land 1:2 packs and cover the entire set. Mini parallels of the SP’s (#300-400) fall 1:11 packs.
Parallels of the mini parallels include Red (/5), which falls 1:53 packs and Silver (1/1) which fall 1:261 packs.
All of the autographs in 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter are mini-framed autographs. As a reminder, they fall one autograph per box. They fall into two subsets, baseball subjects and non-baseball subjects.

Featuring a mix of rookies, veterans, former players, and Hall of Famers, the mini-framed autographs resemble the autographs in base A&G, but with black borders and backgrounds.
The checklist contains 121 cards, which means while there are top names and Hall of Famers, there are also some deeper cuts that may not thrill collectors quite as much.
Black Frame parallels fall 1:57 packs. Black Frame Gold Ink parallels are seeded at a tough 1:166 packs.
Featuring a mix of athletes and personalities from other sports, plus other celebrities, the 61-card set is seeded at a tough 1:77 packs.

Allen and Ginter X is a reasonably priced box with a handful of nice autographs and parallel offerings. But how does it hold its value unopened? Let’s see what recent comps of boxes from the last several years can tell us.

In most cases, the boxes hold their value reasonably well, although they’re not likely to appreciate significantly, either. So, while these aren’t the worst buy-and-hold candidates, they feel like they’re designed to break.
In terms of singles, only a handful of PSA 10s from the last few years have sold for even as much as $50. I didn’t see any PSA 10 sales of any autographed cards on eBay. In fact, the PSA populations of the set are generally quite low. PSA has only graded a total of 470 2022 Topps Allen & Ginter X cards.
So, the high-end potential here isn’t huge, but for a box that pre-sold for $70 and can be had on the secondary market for $115-120, the value is decent enough, and the potential is here for a fun break.
Allen & Ginter X offers a simplified, but stylized version of Allen & Ginter. With one auto per box and mini parallels included, there’s a lot to like for a low price.
While these may not offer the chance of huge hits, there seems to be solid value here for the lower price point.
