2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition value

2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition is a streamlined, prospect-driven Sapphire celebration of baseball. But are hobby boxes a good bet to buy and hold unopened? Let’s see what recent comp prices for boxes from the last few years can tell us.

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2024$430 (pre-sell) / $600
2023$300-350
2022$300-500
2021$100-150

The prices are a bit all over the place. A lot of the value seems to depend on the rookie class, although the product has also changed a bit over the years. At the current prices, I’m not sure I’d consider these a good buy-and-hold candidate.

In terms of singles, what can a look at 2023 Bowman Sapphire Edition singles tell us about the potential value here?

The chance for a high-end hit is certainly here. The high water mark was a 2023 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Red Auto Junior Caminero /5 in a PSA 9 slab, which sold for over $8,000.

Another copy of the same card sold for $7,500. A 2023 Bowman Chrome Sapphire Gold Wyatt Langford Auto /50 in PSA 10 sold for $6,800. Prices drop from there, but there’s clearly some value to be had here.

2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition pros & cons

Every product has pros and cons when deciding whether to purchase and break them. What are some of the pros and cons with 2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition?

Pros

  • Recent comps suggest there is a chance for some big hits here, with some of the rarer autograph parallels of top names going for thousands of dollars.
  • The product is streamlined and these are nice-looking cards. With 4 cards per pack and 8 packs per box, these are a quick, fun break.
  • The guaranteed autograph and three parallels per box help set something of a floor for value.

Cons

  • With a current buy-in price of $600+ for a hobby box with only 32 cards per box, these are not inexpensive.
  • Prospects are not a sure thing, and some will break your heart.

Final thoughts on 2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition

2024 Bowman Sapphire Edition is an online exclusive, straightforward, prospect-driven offering with a guaranteed autograph and guaranteed parallels in every box.

While the price tag isn’t cheap, there is some value to be had, although it’s far from guaranteed in a small box. If your budget allows, or an interesting break opportunity comes up, these have the making of a fun break.
