It’s a story as old as the hobby, but somehow fresh and different every time. A first-round draft pick cruises through the minor leagues, creating excitement among fans and collectors alike. A successful September call-up further raises expectations.

A first extended taste of the big leagues brings more success, with talk of All-Star appearances, Rookie of the Year Awards, and even MVP votes potentially in the picture. Not many young players take this path. Prospects, even the most highly rated ones, will break your heart.

But for those who do follow this path, there is little that will excite collectors more.

Corbin Carroll, to date, has followed that path. Fans and collectors are starting to take notice. But who is Corbin? What are his rookie cards? And his 1^st Bowman? And what other prospect cards does he appear on?

Who is Corbin Carroll?

Corbin Carroll was drafted with the 16^th overall pick in the 1^st round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He quickly became one of the top prospects in the game, maxing out as the #2 prospect in the game on several lists prior to the 2023 season.

Carroll’s combination of speed, power, and hitting ability make it easy to see why evaluators ranked him so highly.

After a quick climb through the minors, Carroll got a September call-up in late 2022. In 115 plate appearances spanning 32 games, he hit .260/.330/.500, good for an OPS+ of 133.

In 2023, Corbin Carroll has built on that early success, with a line of .290/.366/.559 through the first half of the season, good for a .926 OPS and OPS+ of 151. Carroll added 17 home runs and 24 stolen bases during his impressive half-season. Capping off the impressive start to the year, Carroll was elected a starter in the 2023 MLB All-Star Game.

Corbin Carroll is just 22 years old, is already an All Star, and has racked up an impressive 4.9 WAR in the first 111 games of his career. He is a big part of the reason that the long suffering Diamondbacks find themselves leading their division at the mid-way point in the season.

In short, Corbin Carroll is a top prospect making good on his promise in the early goings of his major league career. What the future holds is obviously unclear, but for now, he’s one of the hottest and most talented young players in the game.

Despite not yet being 23 years old and being in his rookie season, Corbin Carroll has appeared on 1,545 cards, according to the Trading Card Database (TCDB.com). He should appear on many more before 2023 is over.

Corbin Carroll 1^st Bowman Cards

Shortly after being drafted in 2019, Carroll had his official 1^st Bowman card in 2019 Bowman Draft and 2019 Bowman Draft Chrome.

The Chrome version is obviously the more chased by collectors, although it’s worth noting that the paper version has a PSA population less than half the size of the Chrome, but sells for less. Both have a high percentage of PSA 10s, something to keep in mind when considering a purchase.

If you’re looking for a harder-to-find and more valuable card, the 2019 Bowman Draft Chrome Draft Pick Autograph card sells strongly in the $1,100-1,300 range in a PSA 10 slab.

The most notable Corbin Carroll rookie cards

Corbin Carroll’s official rookie cards arrived in 2023. Obviously, 2023 isn’t over yet, so he’ll appear on a bunch more rookie cards before it’s all said and done, but some of the top rookie cards so far are the 2023 Bowman, 2023 Topps, and 2023 Topps Heritage.

The 2023 Topps Heritage card also has a couple of variations that are short prints. Both an Image Swap variation and a Name/Position variation exist.

The 2023 Bowman sells for between $40-55 in a PSA 10. The Topps and Topps Heritage cards are so low-pop at this point that comp prices aren’t available, but expect that to change as more make their way to and back from PSA and other grading companies.

While these are Carroll’s true rookie cards, they are likely to remain lower priced than his 1^st Bowman cards. That doesn’t make them undesirable, as the modern rookie card rules tend to make several early cards of a player collectible, just to different degrees.

Other Corbin Carroll pre-rookie & prospect card

Even before being drafted, Corbin Carroll appeared on over 100 cards in 2018 due to his association with USA Baseball’s 18U Team. All of these cards were of the unlicensed variety and produced by Leaf and Panini. In 2019, in addition to the 1^st Bowman, Carroll again appears on a number of cards produced by Leaf and Panini.

2020 saw Corbin Carroll appear on 198 additional cards, including Bowman Draft, Bowman Prospects, Bowman Platinum, Bowman Sterling, plus unlicensed products from Donruss, Leaf, and Panini.

2021 had Carroll again appearing in a number of prospect-themed sets, including Bowman Prospects, Bowman Heritage, Bowman Inception, Bowman Sapphire, Topps 206, Topps Heritage Minor League, Topps Pro Debut, and a few Panini offerings. In total, he appeared on just over 200 cards in 2021.

As with all prospect cards that aren’t 1^st Bowmwan or true rookie cards, these cards often don’t have the same value to most collectors. That being said, they do have value and are worth chasing, especially if you’re a big fan of the player (Corbin Carroll in this case), can’t afford their more popular cards, or already have them and want to keep adding early-career cards of the player to your collection. Adding to the appeal of some of these cards is surprisingly small PSA population counts.

Some of the more limited parallels and autograph cards in this category are still quite attractive and valuable and are certainly worth chasing.

Final thoughts on Corbin Carroll rookie and prospect cards

Corbin Carroll is a Phenom, much like fellow rookie Elly De La Cruz. He’s turning heads and racking up some impressive numbers in his first full major league season. At the halfway point in the season, he’s the leading contender for NL Rookie of the Year and in the conversation for NL MVP.

Collectors are starting to take notice of his excellent season, and his card values are on the rise. Will Carroll’s cards be good long-term investments? Time will tell. For now, prices are rising, but there’s likely still room for growth if he can stay healthy and finishes the year as the NL Rookie of the Year and a top-5 MVP contender.
