2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball release date & release format

The release date of 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball was March 22, 2024 and was subsequently sold on Topps.com.

Each hobby box of 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball contains just one pack per box. Each hobby box contains a single card per pack. Hobby cases contain 5 boxes per case.

Hobby boxes of 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball are pre-selling for $1,000 per box, or around $5,000 per hobby case.

Yes, you read that right…$1,000 per hobby box, for a single card. Did we mention this is a super-premium release? The one card included in each box is either a premium autographed relic that is numbered out of 10 or fewer or a 1/1 cut signature.

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball autographed relics

Featuring on-card autographs, large swatches, and premium subjects, the autograph relics in the 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball are a huge part of the appeal of the product and make up the majority of the product offering.

Dynasty Autographed Patch is the largest offering in the product with a whopping 354 cards.

Numbered out of 10 with Silver (/5) and Gold (1/1) parallels also available. The checklist is large here, but instead of watering down the checklist with mediocre names, Topps includes 3 to 5 different cards for many of the players featured.

This is not true of all players. For example, there are 3 Aaron Judge cards, but only one Andy Pettitte card. Jose Altuve appears on 8 different cards.

Dynasty Autographed Patch Design Variations brings us 117 subjects from the Dynasty Autographed Patch offering design variations.

This checklist also includes more than one version of cards for many players, although the range is more 1-3 than up to 8. Numbered out of 10 with Silver (/5) and Gold (1/1) parallels also available.

Dynasty Autographed Jumbo Patch features 20 cards, with jumbo patches and on-card ink.

Dynasty Autographed Dual Relics add a second relic to the party and offer 38 subjects.

Dynasty Dual Autographed Patch features two players with two signatures. The 10-card checklist even features an appearance by Victor Wembanyama (alongside Aaron Judge).

Dynasty Triple Autographed Patch adds a third player and autograph to the fun, making for some amazing combos among the 9 cards in the set. Julio Rodríguez / Ken Griffey Jr. / Ichiro? Nolan Ryan / Pedro Martinez / Randy Johnson? Shohei Ohtani / Mike Trout / Albert Pujols? Yes, please!

Dynasty Autographed MLB Logo Patch features the MLB logo patch for the player featured, along with an autograph. The checklist here is made up of 59 cards.

Dynasty Autographed Batting Gloves features 11 cards, and feature a batting glove relic and an on-card ink.

Dynasty Autographed Batting Gloves Jumbo Logo Variations offer jumbo logo variation versions of 10 cards from the Dynasty Autographs Batting Glove offering.

Dynasty Autographed Special Event Baseball Leather brings the horsehide with 39 cards, with some players again appearing multiple times on the checklist. Players are featured either in their MLB uniform or their World Baseball Classic uniform.

Dynasty Autographed Special Event Baseball Leather Gold Variations offers up Gold variations for all 39 cards from the original baseball leather autographed offering.

Dynasty World Baseball Classic Autographed Patch features players in their WBC uniforms. The set consists of 51 cards, with players appearing on multiple cards in the set. Numbered out of 10, with Silver (/5) and 1/1 Gold parallel versions.

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball cut signatures

Dynasty Cut Signatures are all 1/1’s, and the checklist of 90 cards features many amazing names. Hall of Famers, fan favorites, and more. The subject ranges from the early days of the 20th century to stars we’ve lost more recently.

A highlight for me is the inclusion of Negro League greats including Buck Leonard, Buck O’Neil, and Cool Papa Bell.

Dynasty Dual Relic Cut Signatures pair a cut signature with relics of the 10 featured players, all of whom are Hall of Famers.

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball value

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball is an ultra-premium, high-priced product. But how do hobby boxes hold their value over time, unopened?

Let’s look at recent comps for boxes from the last few years to see what they can suggest.

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2023$1,000
2022$850
2021$850
2020$900-950

Based on these recent sale prices, it would appear that this high-end product isn’t the best bet to increase in value in the years after release.

But what about singles? If you’re dropping $1,000 for one card, sight-unseen, what are the chances of making your money back and more?

What can looking at recent eBay sales of 2022 Topps Dynasty tell us about potential ROI?

The answer is resounding “yes” — the chance of a big ROI hit is absolutely there. The high water mark in recent sales was a Shohei Ohtani & Mike Trout 2022 Topps Dynasty Dual Jersey Patch Autograph 1/5, which sold for $6,100.

A 2022 Topps Dynasty Julio Rodriguez Black Patch Auto POP 1 Rookie RC 1/5 PSA 10 sold for over $6,000, as well. A Julio Rodriguez 2022 Topps Dynasty Auto Game Used Nike Swoosh 1/1 sold for over $4,600 raw, and a 2022 Topps Dynasty Mike Trout Ken Griffey Jr Dual Game Used Patch Auto #1/1 sold for $4,370.

Return on the high buy-in is far from assured, however. A number of less desirable cards have sold for less than $50 each, with some as low as $25.

With a price of $1,000 per box for a single card, these can also be a big money loser. Know the odds and stay within your hobby budget.

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball pros & cons

Like all products, 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball has pros and cons that should be considered before a purchase.

Pros

  • The chance for an epic hit is possible in these boxes, where a lower-cost box might offer some nice hits but nothing earth-shaking.
  • The entire product is a hit, so it’s a quick break and there are no “low value” cards like base mixed in.
  • There really are some interesting cards here, with premium players, premium relics, on-card ink, and nice designs.

Cons

  • At $1,000 for a single card, these are simply beyond the reach of many collectors.
  • Even if you can afford it, is spending that sum on a sight-unseen 2024 card may not be the best use of your hobby budget? Buying a recent or vintage single may be safer.
  • With only one card per box, you only get one shot at a hit, and that’s it.

Final thoughts on 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball

2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball is a high-end product to an almost absurd extreme. One card for $1,000 is a proposition that offers the chance for a huge hit or massive disappointment.

This probably isn’t the safest way to spend $1,000 on the hobby, not by a long shot. But it might be one of the most exciting. If you’re a high-rolling gambler, you can do a lot worse than 2023 Topps Dynasty Baseball.
