2023 Topps Tier 1 Baseball value

2023 Topps Tier 1 Baseball is a premium product, but one at a much lower buy-in price than other premium products. How do these hold their value unopened? Let’s look at recent comp prices for hobby boxes from the last few seasons.

YearRecent Comp Price
2023$225-230
2022$150-200
2021$150-190
2020$200

2022 Topps Tier 1 boxes were pre-selling for around $220, for context. Looking at the comps, it’s clear that Topps Tier 1 holds some of its value, but perhaps isn’t the best buy-and-hold candidate.

In terms of singles, there’s some value potential here for sure. Looking at recent comps of 2022 Tier One cards in PSA slabs, there are a handful that have sold for fairly high prices. For example, recent sales of a Shohei Ohtani/Mike Trout Dual Auto /25 have been for $4,100 and $7,100.

Other than those, there are only a handful of sales over $200, so the odds of hitting the big card aren’t large, but it is there.

2023 Topps Tier 1 feels like a product you open and enjoy, not one to squirrel away in hopes of rising unopened prices. With the reasonable price point for a hits-only product, these are a good gamble from an ROI perspective.
