2023 Topps Allen & Ginter: Home Of Birds, Food, Music, Celebrities…And Some Baseball Cards! [Checklist Added]

In a world of high-gloss consistency, Allen & Ginter walks to the beat of its own drum (and that drum may have a card in the set). Featuring an old-school feel, quirky insert sets, and a varied checklist, Allen & Ginter is a love-it-or-hate-it set unlike nothing else.

With on-card autographs, some tough hits, and lots of quirky fun, it’s certainly a different break than most.

But what will collectors find in 2023 Allen & Ginter? What are the hits? What’s worth chasing? And are the puns as strong in 2023 as they have been in the past?

2023 Topps Allen & Ginter base set and design

The base set of 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter consists of 350 cards, with the first 300 being true “base” cards, and the last 50 being short prints (SP). As with prior Allen & Ginter releases, the checklists consists of current MLB players, rookies, and non-baseball athletes, and celebrities and other “notable individuals”.

The “unique” checklist is a big part of what makes Allen & Ginter what it is. If you’re looking for just baseball players, this isn’t the set for you. But if the idea of pulling a card of a famous actor, inanimate objects, or a historical place tickles your fancy, this is the set for you.

The design has seen only small changes over the years, allowing it to be different each year, but also continues to pay homage to the original set from 1888. The base cards are low gloss, giving them an “old school” feel. These are also great for autographs, as the surface takes ink well and the varied checklist provides some interesting opportunities.

2023 Topps Allen & Ginter value

It should be obvious by now that 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter would be a fun break. But how do these cards hold their value unopened? Let’s take a look at recent comps of hobby boxes from the last few years to see what the data tells us.

Shop for boxes of 2023 Topps and Ginter boxes on eBay

YearRecent Comp Price
2023$115-130
2022$120-140
2021$100-115
2020$100-125

Unopened hobby boxes of Allen & Ginter appear to hold their value fairly well, but are unlikely to increase in value dramatically, at least within the first few years of release. There are likely better buy-and-hold candidates out there.

In terms of singles, we look at recent sales of 2022 Topps Allen & Ginter cards in PSA 10 slabs. There are a handful of rarer 1/1s and autographs which have sold for over $1,000.

A good number more have sold for hundreds. This suggests that there’s some upside to be had in these boxes. It may take a lot of luck and a good grading experience to really pay back big, but at the reasonable entry point, these seem like a worthwhile break.
