2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball autographs

Autographs, which fall one per pack/box, are a big part of the draw of 2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball. All autographs in 2024 Topps Chrome Black come encased in a one-touch plastic holder.

2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball value

2024 Topps Chrome Black is a higher-end chromium product that is a quick break. But are they good candidates to buy and hold unopened? Let’s see what recent comp prices for hobby boxes from the last few years can tell us.

YearRecent Hobby Box Comp Price
2024$140-175
2023$140-160
2022$140-160
2021$100-125
2020$100-130

These cards appear to hold their value fairly well, but haven’t shown any trend towards increasing in value. That suggests these are likely not the best candidates to buy and hold unopened.

But what about singles? Look at recent 2023 Topps Chrome Black Baseball comps to see the high-end potential. The high water mark is a 2023 Topps Chrome Black Aaron Judge SuperFractor Auto 1/1 White Ivory, which sold for $2,358.

A Shohei Ohtani auto-numbered out of 5 sold for $2,250. And a 2023 Topps Chrome Black Michael Harris II Super Futures 1/1 sold for $2,050. There are quite a few more cards sold for between $1,000 and $2,000.

So, there’s some upside with these cards. While not guaranteed, there’s at least a chance at good ROI on a break. Again, this is far from a sure thing, though, with some 2023 Topps Chrome Black autographs selling for as little as a couple of dollars.

2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball pros & cons

All products have pros and cons that need to be considered before spending your hard-earned hobby budget on them. 2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball is no different, but what should you consider when deciding?

Pros

  • These are nice looking cards, with premium stock, chromium finish, and stylized designs.
  • With one autograph and one parallel in a 4-card box, you’re guaranteed a couple of hits without fluff.
  • 2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball is a streamlined product, with only 4 cards per box and enough parallel, insert, and auto offerings without it feeling like TOO many.
  • While far from guaranteed, there’s a chance at some good ROI with this product. The top hits should carry significant value compared to the buy-in price on the product.

Cons

  • At $140-175 for four cards, there’s not a lot of chances to make your money back.
  • With two base cards per box, this is not a product for set builders.
  • Will there be any Chrome Black fatigue with 2023’s version just dropping in December? How will fans react to it as an early-season product? Is it weird that Chrome Black comes before standard Chrome on the calendar?

Final thoughts on 2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball

2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball is a nice-looking, premium product providing a quick break and some potential for good ROI.

It’s far from inexpensive considering you get just 4 cards per box, and it’s a little weird to see it this early in the season, but 2024 Topps Chrome Black Baseball feels like a product that should be popular with collectors, with good reason.
