With every card autographed, 2023 Topps Five Star will deliver nothing but hits. The autographs in Topps Five Star 2023 come in a variety of flavors.

Five Star Base Autograph Cards is the most populous autograph offering in the product and the largest checklist, but these are still nice pulls. Parallels include Aqua (/75), Purple (/50), Blue (/25), Green (/15), Gold (/10), Orange (/5), and 1/1 Red.

Five Tool Phenom Autographs highlight “five tool” stars with ink. Numbered out of 25 with 1/1 Five Star parallels.

Golden Graphs are a case hit that features on-card autographs in gold ink. Numbered out of 40 copies or fewer. Parallels include Aqua (/75), Purple (/50), Blue (/25), Green (/15), Gold (/10), Orange (/5), and 1/1 Red.

Silver Signature cards are a case hit that feature on-card autographs in silver ink. Numbered out of 40 copies or fewer. Parallels include Aqua (/75), Purple (/50), Blue (/25), Green (/15), Gold (/10), Orange (/5), and 1/1 Red.

Five Star Signatures are signed by MLB greats. Select cards also include inscriptions and are numbered out of 20.

2023 Topps Five Star autographed relics

Containing both ink and memorabilia, autographed relics offer an additional twist to the 2023 Topps Five Star product offering.

Parallels include Green (/15), Gold (/10), Silver Rainbow (/5), Button (/5), Team Patch (1/1), MLB Logo Patch (1/1), Laundry Tag Patch (1/1), and Manufacturer Patch (1/1).

Five Stars Autograph Relic Book Cards feature five autographs and 5 relics from five different stars in each booklet. Numbered to only 5 copies each.

2023 Topps Five Star Cut Signatures

Cut signatures, along with booklet cards, are the only cards in the product that don’t feature on-card autographs. This is for the quite obvious reason that the subjects are all deceased.

Five Star Cut Signatures feature signatures of former MLB stars with all cards numbered 1/1.

Five Star Celebrity Cut Signatures feature cut sigs of greats from the world of pop culture. Numbered 1/1.

2023 Topps Five Star value

2023 Topps Five Star is a premium product that is laser-focused on ink. The boxes contain only two cards, which keep the drop price from being shock-inducing.

But how do these boxes hold their value over time, unopened? Let’s take a look at recent comp prices for hobby boxes from the last few years to see what we can surmise.

YearRecent Comp Price
2023$175-225
2022$180-225
2021$220-275
2020$130-145

It appears that Topps Five Star hobby boxes seem like decent bets to hold their value, or potentially even increase in value slightly when held for multiple years. The high end here isn’t huge, though, so it’s likely safer to bet on “hold value” instead of “increase in value”.

In terms of singles, let’s take a look at recent eBay comps for 2022 Topps Five Star cards in PSA 9 or 10 slabs to see what the high watermark is. The results are very interesting.

The high water mark, by a LOT, was a sale of a 2022 Topps Five Star Jumbo MLB Logo Patch Auto 1/1 Ken Griffey Jr. PSA 10 for $11,500. The next highest sale price on eBay for a PSA 10? $750 for a 2022 Topps Five Star Aroldis Chapman MLB Logo Patch Auto 1/1 PSA 10. A PSA 9 Shohei Ohtani 2022 Topps Five Star 5 Tool Phenom slotted between them at just over $1,000.

After that, the prices fall quickly, with a 2022 Topps Five Star Baseball Nolan Ryan Auto /5 in PSA 9 at $400 the next highest.

Final thoughts on 2023 Topps Five-Star Baseball

As mentioned, 2023 Topps Five Star is all about the ink. While the box only has two cards, the small quantity keeps the box price somewhat reasonable.

While there’s some potential for big dollar cards, there are no guarantees, especially in a box with only two cards. But, if your budget allows and you feel like taking a shot at a great hit, you can do a lot worse than 2023 Topps Five Star. It’s a quick break, but won’t break the bank.
