2023 Panini Flawless Baseball Is All Hits (And Gems) – But Is It Worth The Price Tag?

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball is a high-end, premium offering that brings lots of hits, with ink, memorabilia, and real gems all part of the offering.

But what will collectors find inside 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball? And is it worth a break? While we don’t yet have all the details or a full checklist, there’s a lot we do know about the product.

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball release date & release formats

The release date for 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball is scheduled for January 24, 2024 (subject to change).

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball Hobby Boxes contain a single pack of 10 cards. There are two hobby boxes per hobby case.

Each box contains 7 autographs, 2 memorabilia cards, and one gem card.

Pre-sale prices of 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball have been between $2,000 and $2,600.

Panini Flawless 2023 base set & design

Being a premium, hit-based product, 2023 Panini Flawless doesn’t have much of a base set, but it does have some “base” cards included. These are where most of the gem cards appear, a Flawless trademark.

The base cards are broken up into four subsets- Base, Legends, Rookies and USA. All cards are numbered to 20 copies or fewer – and of course feature one (or more) gems embedded in the card.

Being a Panini product, the cards don’t feature team logos, either on the cards or on player uniforms. The checklist contains a mix of legends (Willie Mays, Lou Gehrig), recent major league legends (Ichiro, Albert Pujols, Buster Posey) and select young big league players (Bobby Witt Jr., Elly De La Cruz).

The lack of licensing and current MLB players of course turns some collectors off, but if you don’t mind, a lot is going on with 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball.

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball Autographs

Autographs are of course a big part of the draw of 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball experience. All cards except any cut signatures are on-card autographs.

Autograph offerings include Legendary Scripts, Star Spangled Signatures, and USA Gems Signatures.

Autographed memorabilia offerings include Rookie Patch Autographs and Star Swatch Signatures.

2023 Panini Flawless memorabilia

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball offers some interesting memorabilia cards to chase. In addition to the signed versions listed above, several other offerings will be found in packs.

The additional memorabilia offerings go beyond the jersey and offer Bat Knobs, Bat Nameplates, and even Cleat Spikes.

Panini Flawless 2023 inserts

In addition to the ink and relics, there are randomly assorted inserts that are tough pulls and include multiple gems per card. These include cards related to big moments associated with legends of the game, like Willie Mays and “The Catch” and Albert Pujols joining the 700 Home Run Club.

In addition, Diamond Legends feature all-time legends like Willie Mays, Satchel Paige, and Walter Johnson, and include an embedded diamond. These are numbered to 20 copies or less.

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball value

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball is a decidedly high-end premium product that brings the hits. But is it a good candidate to buy and hold unopened. Let’s see what recent comp prices of unopened boxes from the last few years can tell us.

YearHobby Box Recent Comp Price
2023$2,000-2,600
2022$2,000-2,600
2021$2,000-2,200
2020NA*

* – There have been no recent sales of a 2020 Panini Flawless Baseball hobby box, but a two-box case is currently on eBay for $6,250.

The recent comps suggest boxes of Panini Flawless Baseball do a good job of holding their value, but are unlikely to increase in value greatly, at least in the first few years after release.

In terms of singles, let’s look at sales of 2022 Panini Flawless Baseball singles in PSA 10 slabs can tell us. The high water mark on eBay is a 2022 Flawless Rookie Patch Auto Julio Rodriguez /15, which sold for $3,000. After that, we see a 2022 Flawless Diamond Bobby Witt Jr. /20 that sold for $1,100 and a 2022 Flawless Alek Thomas Patch Auto /5 that sold for $1,000. From there, the prices go lower fairly quickly.

Perhaps some of the very best pulls haven’t been sold, or haven’t been sold on eBay. But on the surface, this suggests that there is significant risk in 2023 Panini Flawless, when looking at the high buy-in price for a box and only 10 cards per box.

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball Pros & Cons

All hobby products have pros and cons that you should consider when deciding whether to purchase or not. What are some of the pros and cons of 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball?

Pros

  • There are some really interesting low-population hits here, including autos, signed memorabilia, and gem-studded inserts.
  • The inclusion of on-card autographs instead of stickers makes the product more appealing.

Cons

  • At $2,000-2,600 for only 10 cards, the buy-in price here is very high. It is a premium product, but does it justify a $200-250/card price tag?
  • The lack of current players and the unlicensed nature of the product is a big concern with all Panini products, but is especially concerning for a product with high a buy-in price.
  • Will a January, 2024 release cause this 2023 release to fall through the cracks? Spring training will still be a month away when this drops.

Final thoughts on 2023 Panini Flawless Baseball

2023 Panini Flawless Baseball is a high-end product with some interesting hits. The lack of licensing, modern players and the high buy-in price make it a risky investment, however. Still, if you are able to look beyond that, you can find some huge hits from some big time players.
