The recent comps actually suggest that despite being a popular product, Bowman Chrome may not be a great candidate to buy and hold unopened, at least in the short term.

In a year with an all-time great 1^st Bowman (like a Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani), the economics is likely different, but it’s difficult to guess at what years will be like that.

What about in terms of singles? What can recent sales of 2023 Bowman Chrome singles tell us about the potential for big hits and ROI here?

The high water mark was a 1/1 Superfractor 1^st Bowman Retrofractor of Negro League great Josh Gibson. That card sold for an amazing $65,000. A 2023 Bowman Chrome Draft Paul Skenes Gold /50 Auto in a PSA 10 slab sold for $14,650.

In an SGC 10, another copy of the Skenes card fetched $11,900. Even raw copy sold for almost $9,000. Skenes is the biggest seller, but other rare cards of top names also fetch prices north of $5,000. There’s real potential here for some great hits, although of course it’s far from guaranteed.
