2022 Topps Update is scheduled for release on October 28, 2022 (subject to change). Note if you are looking for 2022 Topps Update Chrome that was released later in the year, albeit with significant controversy.
The product will be released in two formats, Hobby and Hobby Jumbo. 2022 Topps Update Hobby packs contain 14 cards per pack, with 24 packs per box. Hobby Jumbo packs contain 46 cards, with 10 packs per box.
Each Hobby case contains 12 hobby boxes, while Hobby Jumbo cases contain 6 Jumbo Hobby boxes. Pre-sales of Hobby boxes are around $125, with Jumbo boxes pre-selling for around $230.
Hobby boxes contain one autograph or one relic. Hobby Jumbo boxes contain one autograph and two relics per box.
Also, Hobby Jumbo boxes have one exclusive Oversized Rookie Reprint Box Loader. The box loader set contains 25 cards, with parallel and autographs versions randomly inserted.
Hobby boxes contain one Silver Pack and Hobby Jumbo boxes contain two Silver Packs. Silver packs contain exclusive 1987 Topps Baseball Chrome cards, including parallel and autographs randomly inserted.

READ: Details on 2022 Topps Chrome Update
The 2022 Topps Update base set contains 330 cards. While it shares the Flagship design with 2022 Topps Series I and 2022 Topps Series II, it is not a sequentially numbered Series III, but a true update set with its own numbering scheme.
Veterans in new uniforms and rookies make up the bulk of the set with several top rookies getting their flagship premiere. These include Julio Rodriguez, Bobby Witt Jr., Spencer Torkelson, and Seiya Suzuki. Hobby consensus is that the set will not include the first card of Adley Rutschman, so we’ll have to wait for 2023 for his first Topps Flagship card.

When it comes to single, the thing with Update is always who the rookie cards are. A special rookie can provide a high value return, whether you’re talking about singles or unopened. Think Mike Trout in 2011. Barring a premium rookie, Update can be a fun break with enough hits to keep it interesting without breaking the bank.
Of course, the rub is that the quality of the rookies in an Update release isn’t always immediately evident, either during the pre-release phase (before the checklist drops) and even after that, as some players aren’t highly touted but make it big. So, buy and break, or buy and hold…the good news is that the buy-in isn’t high, but the payback is a mixed bag based on the rookies and whatever hits you happen to pull.

Topps Update 2022 looks to be a fitting end to the 2022 Topps Flagship trilogy. While details are still coming out about checklists, we expect to see the first Topps Flagship rookie cards of some of 2022’s top rookies. That alone makes the product worth pursuing, and the hits sound interesting enough to add another layer to the chase.
